Michael Egan (Australian Politician)
Michael Rueben Egan (born 21 February 1948), a former union official and former Australian politician, served as Treasurer of New South Wales between 1995 and 2005. Egan served as the Chancellor of Macquarie University from 2008 until 2019 and currently sits on a number of government and non-government advisory boards. Early years and background Born in Sydney, Egan was educated at St Patrick's Catholic College, and obtained his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Sydney. Michael Egan (born 1941) is an American literary scholar and author. Egan was Scholar in Residence at Brigham Young University, Hawai’i and Professor of English and Political Science at TransPacific Hawaii College, Honolulu (which closed at the end of 2008). He earned his Ph.D at Cambridge University, where he edited The Cambridge Review and was first Contributing Literary Editor for the Times Higher Education Supplement. Michael Egan (Irish Politician)
Michael Egan (28 February 1866 – 3 March 1947) was an Irish trade unionist and politician. A coach-builder by trade, his public career started when he was comparatively young, and he became an advocate of the workers of Cork and a driving force in establishing and maintaining trade unionism in the city — often against strong opposition. For several years he was chairman of the Cork Workers Council, and was vice-president and then president of the Cork United Trades from 1904 to 1907, and again in 1913. In 1908 he was elected to the Cork Corporation, and was active locally on the portfolios of Law, Finance, and Public Works. He was a member of the National Executive of the Irish Trade Union Congress and Labour Party, and represented the labour movement on the Anti-Conscription Committee which sat in Dublin during World War I with fellow members Éamon de Valera, Arthur Griffith and John Dillon. Michael John Egan (June 2, 1827January 23, 1910) was an American merchant and insurance agent who served two years as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate and two as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from Milwaukee County. Background Egan was born in the city of Kilkenny, Ireland on June 2, 1827. He graduated from St Kieran's College in Kilkenny in 1847. He came to Wisconsin in 1848, and settled at Franklin. He became a merchant by trade. Michael Francis Egan
Michael Francis Egan (September 29, 1761 – July 22, 1814) was an Irish, later American, prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He was born in Ireland in 1761, and joined the Franciscan Order at a young age. He served as a priest in Rome, Ireland, and Pennsylvania and became known as a gifted preacher. In 1808, Egan was appointed the first Bishop of Philadelphia, and held that position until his death in 1814. Egan's tenure as bishop saw the construction of new churches and the expansion of the Catholic Church membership in his diocese, but much of his time was consumed by disputes with the lay trustees of his pro-cathedral, St. Mary's Church in Philadelphia.
