Michael C. Chorlton
Michael C. Chorlton (27 December 1913 – 25 October 1951) was an English film editor and occasional director. He was born in Disley, Cheshire. He particularly worked with Powell and Pressburger, including editing ''The Silver Fleet'' and the motorcycle sequences for '' A Matter of Life and Death'' Other films he edited include '' Juggernaut'', ''Love on the Dole'', '' The Volunteer'', the Charters and Caldicott vehicle ''Crook's Tour'' and ''The Day Will Dawn''. Chorlton died in a plane crash near Shottesbrooke, Berkshire in his own plane on 25 October 1951. He was on a flight from the West London Aero Club, White Waltham with a local man. Chorlton's first race was in 1945 in the very early days of the Motorsport which would later be known as F1. Disley
Disley is a village and civil parish in Cheshire, England. It is located on the edge of the Peak District in the Goyt valley, south of Stockport and close to the county boundary with Derbyshire at New Mills. The population at the 2011 Census was 4,294. To the north, the River Goyt and the Peak Forest Canal, which opened in 1800, pass along the edge of the village. Today, it is a dormitory village retaining a semi-rural character. The parish includes part of the neighbouring village of Newtown, the bulk of which is in Derbyshire. History Its Anglo-Saxon name was ''Dystiglegh'', meaning "wood or clearing by a mound" or possibly "windy settlement". In the 13th century, in the time of Edward I, there are references to confirmatory grants of land made to Jordan de Dystelegh of Disley Hall and Roger de Stanley-de-Dystelegh of Stanley Hall in the district, pointing to even older local settlements. 1950 BRDC International Trophy
The 2nd BRDC International Trophy meeting – formally the International Daily Express Trophy – was held on 26 August 1950 at the Silverstone Circuit, England. The race was run to Formula One regulations, and was held over two heats of 15 laps each, followed by a final race of 35 laps. Italian driver Nino Farina emerged the winner, in an Alfa Romeo 158, repeating his victory from the 1950 British Grand Prix, held at the same circuit in May. He beat his Argentine team-mate Juan Manuel Fangio, and British driver Peter Whitehead in a Ferrari. Other notable entrants were the two BRM V16 cars entered for Raymond Sommer, Peter Walker, Raymond Mays and Reg Parnell. However, their legendary lack of reliability resulted in neither car completing a lap in anger.
