Michael Barratt Brown
Michael Barratt Brown (15 March 1918 – 7 May 2015) was a British economist, political activist and adult educator. He was a key figure in the creation of the British New Left in the period after the Soviet invasion of Hungary; he helped to found the Fair Trade movement in Britain; and he was the first Principal of Northern College, a residential centre for adult learners in South Yorkshire. Life Barratt Brown was born in 1918. His father, Alfred Barratt Brown, was a Quaker who was imprisoned for his opposition to the First World War. Alfred became Principal of Ruskin College, Oxford, where visitors included the philosopher Bertrand Russell, the Indian nationalist leader Gandhi and William Temple, the Anglican primate. After attending a Quaker boarding school in York, Michael Barratt Brown studied Classics at Oxford. Michael Brown Okinawa Assault Incident
On November 2, 2002, U.S. Marine Corps Major Michael Brown attempted an indecent assault on a Filipina bartender in Okinawa, Japan. The bartender accused Brown of attempting to rape her and of throwing her cell phone into a nearby river; Brown denied the rape charges. The victim later recanted and attempted to withdraw the accusation, though prosecutors presented evidence that she had received a cash payment just before doing so. The case received extensive attention in the Japanese media, especially in Okinawa, and the crime sparked a public debate over the U.S. military presence in Japan, the privileges of extraterritoriality, as well as the fair-trial practices of Japanese legal system and the Japanese police. Michael Brown (New Zealand Priest)
Michael Henry Brown (born 15 April 1936) is a New Zealand Anglican priest. After a range of clerical roles in Canterbury, he was Dean of Saint Paul's Cathedral, Wellington from 1985 to 2002. Early life and family Brown was born in Christchurch on 15 April 1936, the son of Catherine and Harry Brown, and educated at Christchurch Boys' High School. He saw military service with the Regiment of New Zealand Artillery between 1955 and 1958, before going on to study at the University of Canterbury, graduating Bachelor of Commerce in 1963, and qualifying as an associate chartered accountant the same year. He later gained a Master of Business Administration degree from Canterbury in 1991. In 1965, Brown married Anne Elizabeth Pierre. The Venerable Michael Rene Warneford Brown (7 June 1915 – 14 February 2004) was Archdeacon of Nottingham from 1960 to 1977. He was born in Gravesend, Kent and educated at King's School, Rochester. Michael John Albert Brown (19 August 1937 – 2 April 2015), commonly known as Mick Brown, was a New Zealand judge. In 1980, he became the first Māori to be appointed as a District Court judge, and he was later the first principal Youth Court judge. Early life and family Born in the Far North in 1937, Brown affiliated to Ngāti Kahu, Te Aupōuri, Te Rarawa and Ngāpuhi. His father was elderly and his mother died in Auckland from tuberculosis when Brown was one year old. He was subsequently fostered by the Flood family in Mount Albert. Brown's knee was affected by tuberculosis, and he spent three years between 1948 and 1951 at the Wilson School for disabled children in Takapuna, where he was friends with Bruce McLaren. Early life and education Brown was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of a United States Air Force jet mechanic. He spent his childhood in Japan and England before returning to New Mexico.
