Michael Brown (corporate Executive)
Michael A. Brown was managing director of the Defense Department's Innovation Unit. He previously served as chief executive officer for Symantec. Brown has also served as chairman of the board for Line 6 and for EqualLogic and as CEO and chairman of the board for Quantum Corp. In 1980, Brown received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Harvard University. In 1984, he earned an Master of Business Administration from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. In November 2016, Brown was named a Presidential Innovation Fellow. On April 2, 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Brown to be the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is a United States Department of Defense (DoD) organization founded to help the U.S. military make faster use of emerging commercial technologies. Launched in 2015, the organization has been called "the Pentagon's Innovation Experiment". DIU is staffed by civilian and both active duty and reserve military personnel. Lloyd James Austin III (born August 8, 1953) is a retired United States Army four-star general who, since his appointment on January 22, 2021, has served as the 28th United States secretary of defense. The Presidential Innovation Fellows program is a competitive fellowship program that pairs top innovators from the private sector, non-profits, and academia with top innovators in government to collaborate on solutions that aim to deliver significant results in months, not years.
