Michael Barry (television Producer)
Michael Barry (15 May 1910 – June 1988) was a British television producer, director and executive, who was an important early influence on BBC television drama. He was educated at King's College London. He was one of the first producers to work in the field of drama for the BBC, producing and directing several plays for the fledgling BBC Television Service in the 1930s, before it was placed on hiatus for the duration of the Second World War in 1939. He also worked occasionally outside of drama, producing episodes of the magazine programme ''Picture Page'' during 1938. After the resumption of the service in 1946, Barry returned, and quickly became one of the senior drama producers. In 1952, he succeeded Val Gielgud to become the Head of Drama at BBC Television, a position he was to occupy for the next decade. Mick Barry (born 17 September 1964) is an Irish People Before Profit/Solidarity politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork North-Central constituency since the 2016 general election. According to the ''Irish Examiner'', Barry was "a leading figure in the Cork and national campaigns" against household and water charges in the 2010s. Political career 1989 to 2016 Dick Spring expelled Barry, alongside Joe Higgins, Clare Daly, Ruth Coppinger and 10 others, from the Labour Party in 1989 for their membership of the Militant tendency. Barry was first elected as a member of Cork City Council in June 2004 and re-elected in June 2009 and May 2014 (both times on the first count). Mirza Michael John Bukht (10 September 1941 – 4 August 2011) was a British commercial radio executive. Under the pseudonym Michael Barry, he was a chef and television personality who was a regular co-presenter on the BBC2 television show ''Food and Drink''. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1996 Birthday Honours "for services to Radio and Television Broadcasting."
