Michael Barnes (British Politician)
Michael Cecil John Barnes CBE (22 September 1932 – 22 March 2018) was a British Labour Party politician, marketing consultant and senior public official. Barnes was born in Painswick, Gloucestershire to Major Cecil Barnes and Katherine Barnes. He studied at Malvern School before completing national service as a second lieutenant in the Wiltshire Regiment. He then went on to university, where he read Classics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford and joined the Labour Party in his final year. After graduating, Barnes worked for advertising agencies for several years. Barnes entered politics at the age of 32. Having unsuccessfully fought Wycombe in 1964, he was Member of Parliament for Brentford and Chiswick in 1966. As an MP, he argued in support for refugees from the Biafran Civil War and for Bangladesh in its fight for independence. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Dudley Smith
Sir Dudley Gordon Smith (14 November 1926 – 14 December 2016) was a British Conservative politician who served as a junior minister under Edward Heath. He was a Member of Parliament for a total of 35 years, latterly for Warwick and Leamington, which he represented for almost 30 years before he lost his seat in the Labour landslide in the 1997 general election. In England and Wales, the Legal Services Ombudsman was a statutory officer that investigated allegations about the improper, ineffective or inefficient way that complaints about lawyers are handled by their respective self-regulating professional bodies. The Ombudsman is appointed by, and is answerable to, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
