Michael Ahern (Irish Politician)
Michael Ahern (born 20 January 1949) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Minister of State from 1992 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2008. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork East constituency from 1982 to 2011. Early life Michael Ahern was born in Dungourney, County Cork. He was educated at Dungourney National School, Rockwell College, County Tipperary, and University College Dublin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Politics and Psychology. He also attended Kimmage Manor, Dublin where he studied Theology. For a brief period in the early 1970s, Ahern worked as a secondary school teacher. In 1973, he became an accountancy student at Coopers & Lybrand, Cork. In 1977, he became financial controller with a building construction firm in Cork. Mike Ahern (Australian Politician)
Michael John Ahern (born 2 June 1942) is a former Queensland National Party politician who was Premier of Queensland from December 1987 to September 1989. After a long career in the government of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Ahern became his successor amid the controversy caused by the Fitzgerald Inquiry into official corruption. Ahern's consensus style and political moderation contrasted strongly with Bjelke-Petersen's leadership, but he could not escape the division and strife caused by his predecessor's downfall. Early life In common with most National Party politicians, Ahern had a rural background. His father, Jack Ahern, was active in the Country Party (the former name for the National Party), in Landsborough and was campaign manager for Premier Sir Frank Nicklin. Mick Ahern
Michael John "Gah" Ahern (22 May 1905 – 30 December 1946) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Ballintemple, Cork, Ahern first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Crab Lane National School. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork junior team before later joining the senior side. He made his senior debut during the 1925 championship. Ahern immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won four All-Ireland medals, four Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At international level Ahern played for the victorious Tailteann Games hurling team in 1932. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, he won two Railway Cup medals. At club level Ahern was a six-time championship medallist with Blackrock.
