Miami Midnites
The Miami Midnites are a professional minor league basketball team based in Miami, Florida. Established in 2014, the club was an affiliate of the Maccabi Haifa B.C. of the Israeli Basketball Premier League, The team is owned by Jeffrey Rosen, CEO of Triangle Entertainment. History Competing in the Florida Basketball Association, the Midnites named Florida Hall of Fame coach Marcos '"Shakey" Rodriguez its first head coach in April 2014. After an 11-1 regular season, Miami defeated Palm Beach Knights (141–121) in the FBA Playoff semifinals before capturing the league championship against Tampa Bay Rebel98-82on August 10, 2014. After the FBA Summer season, Miami Midnites joined the American Basketball Association for the 2014–15 season. Miami were members of the ABA Southeast Division. Florida Basketball Association
The Florida Basketball Association (FBA) is a semi-professional men's basketball league that began play in the fall of 2012 with teams in Orlando, Lake Wales, and Palm Beach Gardens. The commissioner of the FBA is former NBA player Greg Kite. History The inaugural season of 2012 was played with four teams. Tampa Bay Rebels defeated Heartland Prowl to win the first FBA championship. The Rebels (10-2) and Prowl (9-3) dominated league play in 2013 and met in the championship game once again. Heartland Prowl avenged their first season loss by defeating Tampa Bay 111-109. Prowl forward Arnold Lewis was named FBA Finals MVP, scoring 27 points. In October 2013 the owners of the FBA voted to accept the expansion application of the Miami Midnites, owned by Jeffrey Rosen. Yoav Saffar (יואב ספר; September 30, 1975) is an Israeli former basketball player. He played the power forward position. He was a member of the 2000 and 2001 Israeli Basketball Premier League Quintet. Biography Saffar was born in Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel. He is 6' 10" (208 cm) tall. He played for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Holon, Maccabi Raanana, and Hapoel Galil Elyon. In 2013, nine years after Saffar retired, he returned and played nine minutes for Holon in a game. He was a member of the 2000 and 2001 Israeli Basketball Premier League Quintet. Saffar was also a member of the Israel men's national basketball team. The Shreveport Mavericks are a professional basketball team based in Shreveport, Louisiana that plays in The Basketball League (TBL). History Rio Grande Valley/Southeast Texas (2006-2011) Originally known as the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, the team was originally a member of the former Continental Basketball Association. Owned by McAllen businessmen Art Gonzalez and Kevin Mitchell, the Silverados were based out of McAllen, Texas and played their home games at the McAllen Convention Center. In the team's initial ABA season of 2008–09, the team played in Beaumont. The Southeast Texas Mustangs proved to be a force to be reckoned with winning 27 of their first 28 games, many by margins of 50 points or more. Marcos “Shakey” Rodriguez (November 29, 1952 – November 4, 2020) was a Cuban-American basketball coach. Rodriguez graduated from Florida International University (FIU) in 1975 and became junior varsity coach at Miami Senior High School in 1978. He was elevated to head varsity coach in 1981 and led the program for 14 seasons, compiling a record of 428–62 and winning five Florida state titles (1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1993). The ABA has teams based in the United States and previously had international teams based in Canada and Mexico.
