Miami Americans
The Miami Americans was an American soccer club based in Miami, Florida that was a member of the American Soccer League. The team existed for only the 1980 season and played their home games at Tropical Park Stadium. History In late 1979, Joseph Raymond sold the New Jersey Americans to a London-based company. The new ownership moved the team to Miami and released most of the players and staff. In the winter of 1979–1980, the team then hired Ron Newman on a five-year contract at $200,000 per year. On June 20, Newman resigned to become coach of the San Diego Sockers of the first division North American Soccer League. When he left the Americans, he induced Manu Sanon to move with him. Five days later, the London company sold the team to Stan Noah and Archie Oliver. The team finished the season at 10-2-15 and folded soon after. Brian Tiler
Brian Tiler (15 March 1943 – 30 June 1990) was an English footballer. Tiler, a central defender, began his career at his home town club Rotherham United where he made his debut in 1962–63. He spent seven seasons at Millmoor, playing more than two hundred league games, before moving on to Aston Villa in December 1968. At Aston Villa, Tiler had the misfortune of being a member of the side that were relegated to the Third Division for the first and only time in the club's history in 1969–70. However, he was also a member of the Villa side that won promotion two years later. In October 1972, he was transferred to Carlisle United, where he finished his Football League career. In 1974, he was appointed player manager of non league Wigan Athletic, where he spent two years, and won the Northern Premier League in 1974–75. Manu Sanon
Emmanuel "Manno" Sanon (25 June 1951 – 21 February 2008) was a Haitian professional footballer who played as a striker. He starred in the Haiti national team winning the 1973 CONCACAF Championship. Haiti qualified for the finals of the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Though they lost all three matches Sanon scored twice in the tournament. His goal against Italy when he ran onto a pass from Philippe Vorbe was the first conceded by Italian keeper Dino Zoff in 1,142 minutes of football. The North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top-level major professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1968 to 1984. It was the first soccer league to be successful on a national scale in the United States. The league final was called the Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and the Soccer Bowl Series in its final year, 1984. The league was headed by Commissioner Phil Woosnam from 1969 to 1983.
