Mexican Comics
Comics culture in Mexico is far from being a modern phenomenon. Its roots may be traced back to many stages in Mexican history. Museo Del Estanquillo
The Museo del Estanquillo ("Museum of the Little Shop") is located in the Historic Center of Mexico City, Mexico. The museum houses the personal collection of the writer Carlos Monsivais, encompassing paintings, photography, toys, albums, calendars, advertising and books. History of the Museum For more than 30 years, Carlos Monsivais was dedicated to collecting about 20,000 objects, which have been grouped into photography, miniature models; drawings and cartoons; engravings and everyday life. Overall, the collection is centered on the life of Mexico and folk art. The idea for a museum was supported by Rafael Barajas, Carlos Payan, Carlos Slim and the then mayor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Karmatron
''Karmatrón y los Transformables (Karmatron and the Transformables)'' is a Mexican science fiction and fantasy comic book created by Oscar González Loyo, and published in 1986 by CEPSA. The weekly series was published only in Mexico, non-stop and during 5 years, from 1986 to 1991 (#298). The comic is considered one of the first Mexican sci-fi super robot works inspired by "anime" and is notable because of its once-per-week publication schedule, something slightly uncommon, but shared by many other publications (or surpassed as Santo El Enmascarado de Plata was at one point published 3 times per week), at its time of release. Timbiriche
''Timbiriche'' (also known for a brief time as ''La Banda Timbiriche'') is a Mexican pop music group. The group started as a children's group in 1981 and managed to evolve successfully into adulthood. Timbiriche is considered one of the most iconic Latin Pop acts of the 1980s and the early 1990s. It was the start of numerous figures in the Latin American entertainment world, including successful singers like Thalía, Paulina Rubio and Edith Márquez, as well as actors, composers and conductors. The discography of the band consists of twelve studio albums released between 1982 and 1993, in addition to two compilation albums and two discs recorded live. Timbiriche is considered one of the most popular Latin Pop bands of all time. They have met in three successful reunions. Parchís (group)
Parchís was a children's music group from Spain which enjoyed great success in the Spanish-speaking world in the 1980s. Their significance in Hispanic popular culture comes from being perceived as an archetype of this type of band at the time. Parchís' original five members were Constantino Fernández Fernández (the red pawn), Yolanda Ventura Román (the yellow pawn), Oscar Ferrer Cañadas (the blue pawn), Gemma Prat Termens (the green pawn), and David Muñoz Forcada (the rolling die, which is singular for dice). After several line-up changes, the group disbanded in 1982 with various members continuing successful careers in the world of entertainment. Cepillín
Ricardo González Gutiérrez known as Cepillín () (February 7, 1946 – March 8, 2021) was a Mexican clown as well as a singer, TV host and actor. Career Ricardo was a dentist who started to paint his face so that kids would not be afraid of him as he worked on their teeth. He became famous when a local TV channel interviewed him. The name ''Cepillín'' means "Little (tooth)Brush" in Spanish (while "cepillo" means literally "brush", the origin of the nickname implies it is, in fact, referring to a toothbrush). With Televisa he had a show called ''El Show de Cepillín'' starting in 1977. This was an educational, comedy and interview show with guests such as Lou Ferrigno (who was ''Hulk'' on the popular TV show). The show was a success in Mexico as well as Chile and Puerto Rico. Tinieblas
Manuel Leal (born June 8, 1939), better known as Tinieblas ("Darkness"), is a Mexican people, Mexican lucha libre, luchador. Professional wrestling career Tinieblas began as a body builder and stunt man who was spotted by luchadores Black Shadow (wrestler), Black Shadow and Dory Dixon. Impressed by Leal's physique they convinced him to begin a career as a "wrestler, luchador". In 1968, ''"Lucha Libre"'' magazine editor Valente Pérez, came up with the idea of a character that would act as a rival for luchador Mil Mascaras. He created a character with a faceless hood and named him "Tinieblas" (''Darkness''). Perez selected the former body builder turned luchador to wrestle as that character. Tinieblas debuted as a face on August 20, 1971. He would become a large draw in Mexico and toured internationally. Tinieblas was also one of the first luchadores to tour Japan in 1974.
