Meulan-en-Yvelines
Meulan-en-Yvelines (; formerly just ''Meulan'') is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. It hosted part of the sailing events for the 1900 Summer Olympics held in neighboring Paris, and would do so again twenty-four years later. History In 1435 as a part of the Hundred Years' War, Ambroise de Loré and Jean de Dunois defeated the English nearby. Meulan hosted the first regatta in the sailing event at the 1900 Summer Olympics. Population Heraldry The Coat of Arms of Meulan-en-Yvelines is blazoned as: ''Azure semy-de-lys or, a chief chequy or and gules of four tiers.'' The shield of arms is composed of the ancient arms of France, granted to the village as an augmentation of honour by Henri IV in 1590, with a chief displaying the first four tiers of the ''chequy or and gules'' arms of the ancient Counts of Meulan. M'Baye Hamady Niang (born 19 December 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Auxerre. Born in France, he plays for the Senegal national team. The 1900 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1900, link=no), today officially known as the Games of the II Olympiad () and also known as Paris 1900, were an international multi-sport event that took place in Paris, France, from 14 May to 28 October 1900. No opening or closing ceremonies were held. At the Sorbonne (building), Sorbonne conference of 1894, Pierre de Coubertin proposed that the Olympic Games should take place in Paris in 1900. However, the delegates to the conference were unwilling to wait six years, and lobbied to hold the first games in 1896. Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad ( 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece). With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1924 consisted of a total of three sailing classes (disciplines). For each of the classes the event an elimination round, semi-finals and finals were scheduled. The 1924 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade) and also known as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. Maurice Thiriet
Maurice Thiriet (; 2 May 1906 – 28 September 1972) was a French composer of classical and film music. Biography Born in Meulan, Yvelines, Maurice Thiriet attended the Paris Conservatory from 1925 to 1931, studying counterpoint and fugue with Charles Koechlin, and orchestration and arrangement under Alexis Roland-Manuel. Thiriet's career revolved mainly around film music, completing around seventy scores from 1942 to 1960. A fellow composer Maurice Jaubert, whose life was cut short during World War II, is often cited as a major influence on Thiriet's outlook. Besides his cinematic output, Thiriet also composed several concert works, including a concerto for the flute, twelve ballets, and three operas. Ibrahima Sacko (born 24 May 1993) is a French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Championnat National 2 side Fréjus Saint-Raphaël.
