Mettingen is a municipality in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Mettingen is situated approximately 25 km east of Rheine and 20 km west of Osnabrück. Neighbouring places Neighbour villages of Mettingen are Recke in the west, Neuenkirchen, (Lower Saxony) in the north, Ibbenbüren in the south and Westerkappeln in the east. Coppenrath & Wiese KG is a German food company that is one of the largest manufacturers of frozen bakery products in Europe. The company mainly produces frozen pies, cakes, tortes, tarts and bread rolls. The head office is in Osnabrück. In 2010, the company employed about 1,700 people at its production site Mettingen and 300 at their administrative and logistics base in Osnabrück district. History Production of frozen cakes began in 1975 at the old dairy in Westerkappeln, when the cousins Aloys Coppenrath and Josef Wiese who had previously run a small bakery in the village of Mettingen joined forces. Production was continuously expanded and new products added to the range. In 1992 a new production plant in Mettingen commenced operations. A small production area was left in neighbouring Westerkappeln until in 2003 the production shifted totally to Mettingen. Brenninkmeijer Family
Brenninkmeijer (german: Brenninkmeyer) is a Roman Catholic Dutch/German/Swiss family of manufacturers, which own an international chain of clothing stores. Originally the family came from Tecklenburger Land (Westphalia), selling linen in Friesland in the Netherlands. In 1840 two members of the family founded C&A company in Sneek. Their descendants discovered the potential of the stock of produced ready-made garment. Today, the family owns the Cofra Holding AG, based in Switzerland which in turn controls the C&A fashion business, a private equity company, a real estate fund and two banks. Kasper König
Kasper König (born 1943) is a German museum director and curator. Career König was born in Mettingen. In 1965 he traveled to New York as a courier on behalf of the Robert Fraser Gallery, where he lived intermittently until 1978. From 1973 to 1975, König taught as an associate professor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada. He became a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1985. Portikus, an exhibition hall for contemporary art in Frankfurt am Main, was founded in 1987 by König. From 1988 to 2000, König taught as a professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, which he headed as rector from 1989. From 2000 to 2012, he was director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Steinfurt () is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Bentheim, Emsland, district-free Osnabrück and the Osnabrück district, Warendorf, district-free Münster, Coesfeld, Borken. Geography The district is situated at the Lower Saxon border, north of Münster. The Ems river runs through the district from south to north.
