Mette Gjerskov
Mette Gjerskov (born 28 July 1966 in Gundsø) is a Danish politician, who is a member of the Folketing for the Social Democrats political party. She was elected into parliament at the 2005 Danish general election. She is a former minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. Background She finished her studies as an agronomist at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in 1993. Before this she studied mathematics, physics and chemistry at an evening school for adults in Ballerup. Political career She worked as a civil servant of the minister of Agriculture from 1995 to 2004. She was elected as deputy of ''Folketing'' for the 2005 election. After central-left and left won the election on 15 September 2011, she was nominated as the minister of food, agriculture and fisheries in the cabinet of Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Folketing
The Folketing ( da, Folketinget, ; ), also known as the Parliament of Denmark or the Danish Parliament in English, is the unicameral national legislature (parliament) of the Kingdom of Denmark—Denmark proper together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Established in 1849, until 1953 the Folketing was the lower house of a bicameral parliament, called the Rigsdag; the upper house was Landstinget. It meets in Christiansborg Palace, on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen. The Folketing passes all laws, approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government. It is also responsible for adopting the state's budgets and approving the state's accounts. As set out in the Constitution of Denmark, the Folketing shares power with the reigning monarch. A cabinet reshuffle or shuffle occurs when a head of government rotates or changes the composition of ministers in their cabinet, or when the Head of State changes the head of government and a number of ministers.
