Metsä (''Forest'') is the first officially released demo cassette by finnish folk metal band Moonsorrow in 1997. Originally 215 copies of the demo were released,The Metal Archives retrieved 2012-10-3.Discogs retrieved 2015-12-22. all of which were sold out. In 2001, Marko Tarvonen remastered the demo and it was then provided as a download. However, the download was later removed from the website. Moonsorrow
Moonsorrow is a Finnish pagan metal band formed in Helsinki in 1995. Musically, the band incorporates elements of black metal and folk metal in their sound. The band call their sound "epic heathen metal" and try to distance themselves from the term "Viking metal". They have distanced themselves from other folk metal bands, emphasising that their music is pagan and spiritual and is challenging for its listeners, rather than happy or danceable. The band members have varying levels of pagan belief but they draw on pagan spirituality for lyrics and inspiration. Black Metal
Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include Tempo#Beats per minute, fast tempos, a Screaming (music)#Black metal, shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted Electric guitar, guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (Lo-fi music, lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Folk Metal
Folk metal is a fusion genre of heavy metal music and traditional folk music that developed in Europe during the 1990s. It is characterised by the widespread use of folk instruments and, to a lesser extent, traditional singing styles (for example, Dutch Heidevolk, Danish Sylvatica and Spanish Stone of Erech). It also sometimes features soft instrumentation influenced by folk rock. The earliest folk metal bands were Skyclad from England and Cruachan from Ireland. ''Tämä ikuinen talvi'' (''This Eternal Winter'') is the fourth demo album of the Finnish folk metal band Moonsorrow, released in the very beginning of 1999 by Meat Hook Productions. ''Tulimyrsky'' (Firestorm) is the first EP of the Finnish folk metal band Moonsorrow. Initially scheduled for release on 26 March 2008 through Spinefarm Records, the release date was postponed until 30 April to allow for proper promotion. Over an hour in length, the release contains one new song, two covers and two re-recorded tracks from the band's early demos. It was stated that this release is categorized as an EP so that it will not be interpreted as the band's new album. The title track is divided into nine "chapters" in the lyric sheet, which do not always correspond with the sequence of progression between musical themes. The music deviates from chapter to chapter, from brutal black metal to acoustic folk rhythms. Ville Sorvali (born 13 April 1980 in Helsinki, Finland) is a Finnish musician and music journalist. He is the vocalist, bass guitarist and lyricist for the Finnish pagan metal band Moonsorrow. His cousin Henri "Trollhorn" Sorvali is the guitarist and main songwriter. He is currently playing in the bands Daimonic, Human Death, and Lakupaavi. Other bands he has played in include Amoral and May Withers. His idols include Alan Averill of Irish band Primordial, and Thomas Väänänen of Swedish band Thyrfing Thyrfing is a viking metal band from Sweden. Henri Sorvali
Henri "Trollhorn" Sorvali, born 19 October 1978 in Finland, is the guitarist and keyboardist of the pagan metal band Moonsorrow, and keyboardist for Finntroll. He also played keyboards on a few occasional gigs with The Rasmus in the late 1990s. Besides he was the leader of the folk/ambient project Lunar Womb, which in the end in 1999 was a solo project. He has also played in bands called Thunderdogs and Lakupaavi (a side project done as a joke by members of Moonsorrow), and played as a session musician on Ensiferum's self-titled debut album and Glittertind's mini-album Til Dovre Faller. He currently works as a music producer for Rovio Entertainment. Sorvali gets inspiration from bands like Anthrax, Bal-Sagoth, Bathory, Cannibal Corpse, Darkthrone, Helheim, Maze of Torment, Merciless and Thyrfing.
