Metropolitan Areas in Colombia are officially designated administrative and census areas, composed of an urban center and its associated Municipalities. Description The following criteria must be met for a group of communities to be designated a Metropolitan Area: * Each one of the Municipalities, the secondary cities as well as the central city, must have a population of at least 50,000 inhabitants. * The secondary cities must integrate their city planning with that of the central city. * At least two-thirds of those employed in the area must perform non-rural activities. * Each of the secondary cities must have at least 10% of their workers employed in the central city. Tabio
Tabio is a municipality and town of Colombia in the department of Cundinamarca. It is located at from Bogotá. The town was officially founded April 8, 1603, by Diego Gómez de Mena, on grounds that were the property of the native Muisca who inhabited the area. Tabio borders Zipaquirá in the north, Cajicá in the east, Subachoque in the west and Tenjo in the south. Etymology The name Tabio comes from the Chibcha word ''Teib'' meaning "dent" or "hole", which refers to its geographical location, next to the mouth of the Río Frío (also called Sinca). History The Muisca occupied the current location of Tabio before the Spanish conquest, and were largely devoted to agriculture. Envigado
Envigado () is a town southeast of Medellín, Colombia in the department of Antioquia. It is located in the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. It borders El Poblado, Medellín to the north, Sabaneta to the south, El Retiro and Caldas to the east, and Itagüí to the west. Envigado is known for maintaining the traditions of the Paisa Region and for its architecture. It also has one of the highest standards of living in Colombia and according to the Colombian magazine Semana, it has the lowest rate in the country of, what the magazine calls, “people with unmet basic needs”. Itagüí
Itagüí () is a city of Colombia, located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the Antioquia Department. It is part of The Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. Demographics The population at the 2005 census was 230,272. Its density is 17 km2. History Founded in 1743, Itagüí was declared a municipality in 1832. Its name comes some historians of an indigenous chief named ''Bitagüí''. Two of its most representative Diego Echavarría Misas and Eladio Vélez. There were two chapels in Itagüí in colonial times.
