Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Of Hong Kong
Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong (MYO/MYOHK, zh, 香港青少年管弦樂團) is a youth orchestra founded in Hong Kong in 2003. It has collaborated with different artists including Yang Li, Siqing Lu, Nancy Loo, Colleen Lee, Cho-Liang Lin, Michelle Kim and the famous visual theater group Magic Circle Mime Company from the United States. The orchestra gives performances triannually in various venues including the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and the City Hall, Hong Kong. In addition to producing music performances, MYO has brought concerts to audience, performing with Korean four-fingered pianist Lee Hee-ah, one-arm violinist Adrian Anantawan and limbless life warrior, Nick Vujicic in 2009 and 2013. A youth orchestra is an orchestra made of young musicians, typically ranging from pre-teens or teenagers to those of conservatory age. Tsuen Wan Town Hall
Tsuen Wan Town Hall is a town hall in Tsuen Wan, New Territories, Hong Kong. Originally it was intended to be located near Tsuen Wan station of the MTR, but it was re-located near the former Tsuen Wan Ferry Pier and Tsuen Wan Magistracy, between Tai Ho Road and Yuen Tun Circuit in late 1970s. The town hall was completed in 1980. History The complex was built as part of the Tsuen Wan New Town project. It was officially opened by Princess Alexandra on 7 February 1980. Day-to-day operations were originally the responsibility of the Urban Services Department. Nick Vujicic
Nicholas James Vujicic ( ; born 4 December 1982) is an Australian American Christian evangelist and motivational speaker of Serbian descent, born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterised by the absence of arms and legs. Early life Vujicic was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1982 to Dušanka and Borislav Vujičić, Serbian immigrants from Yugoslavia. He was born without fully formed limbs and he was bullied at school because of it. At one point, he tried killing himself by drowning in his bathtub but it did not continue. According to his autobiography, his mother refused to see him or hold him when the nurse held him in front of her, and she and her husband went out of the hospital. Lee Hee-ah
Lee Hee-ah (born 1985) is a South Korean pianist. Biography Lee was born with only two fingers on each hand. The thumb of her left hand does not have any bones. At age three, both her legs were amputated below the knee. The prosthetic feet she relies on to walk are soft and hurt very easily, and because of this she cannot walk for long periods of time. Her mother, Woo Kap-sun, took motion-sickness pills to deal with carsickness without realizing she was pregnant, which may have contributed to Lee's birth defects. Her father, Lee Un-bong, was injured in a war and took morphine for 10 years as he was paralyzed below the waist. He died circa 2005. When Lee was seven years old, her mother started her on the piano to train her hands, which at the time could not even hold a pencil. However, the piano later became a source of inspiration to her. Hong Kong City Hall () is a building located at Edinburgh Place, Central, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Cultural Centre () is a multipurpose performance facility in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Colleen Lee
Colleen Lee Ka-ling (; born 11 October 1980) is a Hong Kong pianist who won the 6th place prize in the XV International Chopin Piano Competition in 2005. Biography Lee began piano lessons when she was four, and started studying with Miss Eleanor Wong upon admission to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts two years later. She graduated valedictorian in 2001 (Bachelor’s) and again in 2003 (Professional Diploma), and has since been working with Arie Vardi at the Hochschule in Hannover, Germany. Nancy Loo is the West Coast Bureau Correspondent for NewsNation in Los Angeles. Early life In 1964, Loo was born in Hong Kong.
