''Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York'' is the third video album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater. It was released on April 21, 2001 by Elektra Records. The live performance was the final concert of the US leg of the Metropolis 2000 tour at the Roseland Ballroom, New York City on August 30, 2000. The VHS release of ''Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York'' was heavily shortened and only contains the performance of '' Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory''. The entire concert is on CD on ''Live Scenes From New York''. Dream Theater
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. They subsequently dropped out of their studies to concentrate further on the band that would eventually become Dream Theater. Their current lineup consists of Petrucci, Myung, vocalist James LaBrie, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Mike Mangini. Over the course of various lineup changes, Petrucci and Myung have been the only two constant members, and Portnoy remained with the band until 2010, when he left to pursue other musical endeavors and he has since been replaced by Mangini. John Petrucci
John Peter Petrucci (born July 12, 1967) is an American guitarist, best known as a founding member of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. He produced or co-produced (often with former member Mike Portnoy before he departed the band in 2010) all of Dream Theater's albums from '' Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory'' (1999) to ''A View from the Top of the World'' (2021), and has been the sole producer of the band's albums released since ''A Dramatic Turn of Events'' (2011). ''A Change of Seasons'' is an EP by progressive metal band Dream Theater, first released on September 19, 1995, through East West Records. It comprises the 23-minute title track and a collection of live cover songs performed at a fan club concert on January 31, 1995 at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, England. The title track was recorded at BearTracks Studios in New York and was originally slated to be released on the 1992 album ''Images and Words'', but was instead re-recorded and released as an EP. Although the song includes audio samples from the 1989 film ''Dead Poets Society'' (as well as quotes from the 1648 Robert Herrick poem, ''To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time''), the lyrics, written by drummer Mike Portnoy, were not inspired by the film. Theresa Thomason is an American Gospel music singer. Musical career Thomason reached the airwaves with ''Fresh Enuff'', a popular club single and a winning performance at the Apollo Theater in New York City. She toured Europe for over 10 years, performing in over 150 European cities. ''Live Scenes from New York'' is a 3-disc live album by progressive metal band Dream Theater, recorded on August 30, 2000, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. ''Live Scenes from New York'' is the audio counterpart to the '' Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York'' DVD, released in 2001, except only the CD has the full concert. The third disc contains two videos of the concert that are not on the DVD, the music video for "Another Day", and Jordan Rudess's keyboard solo. This is Dream Theater's first live release with Rudess and first full-length live release. Drummer Mike Portnoy collapsed after the concert. He said, "I collapsed due to over-exhaustion, dehydration, stress, too little food and nutrition, too many Red Bulls, etc. It took me several hours of throwing up, being wrapped in blankets and laying down before I was carried out of the venue hours after the show." Roseland Ballroom
The Roseland Ballroom was a multipurpose hall, in a converted ice skating rink, with a colorful ballroom dancing pedigree, in New York City's theater district, on West 52nd Street in Manhattan. The venue, according to its website, accommodated 3,200 standing (with an additional 300 upstairs), 2,500 for a dance party, between 1,300 and 1,500 in theatre style, 800–1,000 for a sit-down dinner, and 1,500 for a buffet and dancing. The venue hosted a wide range of events, from a Hillary Clinton birthday party, to annual gay circuit parties, to movie premieres, to musical performances of all genres, including Beyoncé's Elements of 4 show and internet stars Team StarKid's Apocalyptour National Concert Tour.
