Metropolis (The Church Song)
"Metropolis" is a song by Australian alternative rock band the Church. It was released as the lead single from their sixth album, ''Gold Afternoon Fix'' (1990), and the songwriting credits were given to all four members of the band. The song topped the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart and reached number 19 in Australia. A music video directed by David Hogan and produced by Chris O'Brien was made for the song. Background and composition Marty Willson-Piper, Peter Koppes, Richard Ploog, and Steve Kilbey were all credited with writing the song. The lead guitar produced a quickly falling then softly ascending melody. A complicated web of guitar overdubs appears later in the song, and a soft, mandolin-sounding melody was added as an additional hook. The Church (band)
The Church are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with New wave music, new wave, neo-psychedelia, and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavour in Australia." The ''Los Angeles Times'' has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop". The founding members were Steve Kilbey on lead vocals and bass guitar, Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper on guitars, and Nick Ward on drums. ''El Momento Descuidado'' (a Spanish rendering of "''The Unguarded Moment''") is the eighteenth album by the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church, released in November 2004. The album followed the outtakes compilation ''Beside Yourself'' by only a month. This time, the band decided to revisit past material in an all-acoustic setting, along with five new songs. For the first time in years, they performed " The Unguarded Moment" (albeit in strongly modified form), an early hit from which they had long distanced themselves. As a nod to the song's reappearance, they titled the album ''El Momento Descuidado'' - a rough Spanish translation of its name. A short all-acoustic tour followed the release in late 2004. The album was nominated for an 2005 ARIA Music Award for Best Adult Contemporary album, but it lost to The Go-Betweens' ''Oceans Apart''. National Video Center
The National Video Center was a video production company with studios in Washington, DC, Boston, Atlanta, Connecticut and New York City until June 2002. National Recording Studios opened in 1959 in Manhattan at 730 Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets - Recording Studios were on the 6th floor which included Studio B, and insert shoot stage for the fledgling National Video, located on the 11th floor. Original owners were Irv Kaufman, Hal Lustig, and brother Carl Lustig. Andrew Lustig eventually became the CEO and owner of National Video Center and Recording Studios. National moved its headquarters to the former West Side Airlines Terminal at 460 West 42nd Street (which was on Theatre Row (New York City)) as well as maintaining a huge music recording studio in what used to be the ballroom of the Edison Hotel.
