The Met Hotel is a Grade II listed building situated on King Street in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Designed by Leeds-based architects Harry Sutton Chorley and J.W. Hotel Metropole is a heritage-listed hotel at 253 Brisbane Street, West Ipswich, City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by George Brockwell Gill and built in 1906. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The two storey brick hotel was constructed in 1906 to the design of prominent Ipswich architect George Brockwell Gill. In 1915 part of the surrounding property was resumed by the Queensland Railways Department. In 1925 the brewers Perkins & Co took over the lease until 1935 as part of a widespread accumulation of hotels by the company throughout Queensland. When Perkins & Co merged with Castlemaine in 1928 to form Castlemaine Perkins the brewery held licences for 19 freehold hotels and 50 leasehold hotels including the Hotel Metropole in Ipswich. Hotel Metropole was a hotel in Vienna, Austria that was constructed in 1871–73. It was destroyed during World War II after serving as the Vienna headquarters of the Gestapo from 1938. The address was Morzinplatz, in the I. District Innere Stadt. History The hotel was built for the Vienna World Exhibition and was designed by Carl Schumann and Ludwig Tischler. The four-story building was richly decorated with Corinthian columns, caryatids and atlases. The inner court was glassed over and had a richly decorated dining hall. After the ''Anschluss'' of Austria to Nazi Germany in March 1938, the hotel was confiscated by the Gestapo who made it their headquarters. With a staff of 900 (80 per cent of whom were recruited from the Austrian police), it was the largest Gestapo office outside of Berlin. The Hilton Birmingham Metropole is the largest hotel in England outside London – with 790 rooms and suites, and approximately of conference halls. The Hotel Metropole (''The Met'') was a notable landmark hotel in Dublin, Ireland. It was located next to the General Post Office building in O'Connell Street. Originally four Georgian buildings, they were combined to form a unified hotel in a high-french style by architect William M. Mitchell in 1891–93. Various architectural additions and embellishments were included to make the building look more French including a mansard roof with rounded dormer windows. This followed the style other Dublin hotels were adopting at the time including the Shelbourne Hotel and nearby the Jury's Hotel at College Green. The building was badly damaged during the Easter Rising and the remains were ultimately demolished.
