Algernon Methuen
Sir Algernon Marshall Stedman Methuen, Baronet (23 February 1856 – 20 September 1924) was an English publishing, publisher and a teacher of Classics and French language, French. He is best known for founding the publishing company Methuen Publishing, Methuen & Co. Background and education Methuen was born as Algernon Methuen Marshall Stedman in London, the third son of John Buck Stedman, Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, FRCS, and Jane Elizabeth née Marshall. He was educated at Berkhamsted School and then Wadham College, Oxford, from which he graduated with an Master of Arts, MA. Career After graduating from Oxford, Methuen entered teaching, and rose to become head of High Croft Preparatory School at Milford, Surrey, Milford in Surrey from 1890 to 1895.Obituary of Sir Algernon Methuen. Anthony Methuen, 5th Baron Methuen
Captain Anthony Paul Methuen, 5th Baron Methuen (26 June 1891 – 21 June 1975), was a British soldier, architect and peer. Methuen was the second son of Field Marshal Paul Methuen, 3rd Baron Methuen, by his wife Mary Ethel Sanford, daughter of William Ayshford Sanford, of Nynehead Court, Somerset. He was educated at Wellington College and New College, Oxford. He was wounded in the First World War while serving as a captain in the Scots Guards. He was a chartered architect. He succeeded in the barony in January 1974, aged 82, on the death of his elder brother. Charlotte Mary Methuen, (born 1964) is a British Anglican priest, historian, and academic. Since 2017, she has been Professor of Church History at the University of Glasgow. As an academic she specialises in the Reformation in Germany, 20th-century ecumenism, and women's ministry. She was previously a lecturer at Ruhr University Bochum (University of Bochum), the University of Hamburg, the University of Oxford and Ripon College Cuddesdon. She has served as a priest in the Church of England, Scottish Episcopal Church, and the Old Catholic Church in Germany. Early life and education Methuen was born in 1964.
