Highlander (franchise)
''Highlander'' is a British film and television franchise created by American screenwriter Gregory Widen. The series began with a 1986 fantasy film starring Christopher Lambert, who played Connor MacLeod, the titular Highlander. Born in Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century, MacLeod is one of a number of immortals empowered by an energy called the Quickening and only able to die if beheaded. On television, '' Highlander: The Series'' aired for six seasons from 1992–1998, starring Adrian Paul as Connor's kinsman Duncan MacLeod, another immortal Highlander born decades later. Recurring characters in the series included the immortal thief Amanda (Elizabeth Gracen) and oldest immortal Methos (Peter Wingfield) who each had spin-off shows, '' Highlander: The Raven'' and '' The Methos Chronicles'' respectively, which each lasted one season. Amanda (Highlander)
Amanda is a fictional character in the television series '' Highlander: The Series'' and '' Highlander: The Raven,'' portrayed by actress Elizabeth Gracen. She is one of the Immortals, immune to old age and death except by taking the head off. Some Immortals play The Game, seeking each other out for a duel to the death, for which the survivor is rewarded with a Quickening. Amanda was created to be a former lover of fellow Immortal Duncan MacLeod, the protagonist of the ''Highlander: The Series'' television series. She originally appeared in the 1993 episode " The Lady and the Tiger" as a "villain of the week" type character. Peter Wingfield
Dr Peter Wingfield (born 5 September 1962) is a Welsh-born television actor, well known for his television roles as Dan Clifford in '' Holby City'', Dr. Robert Helm in ''Queen of Swords'' and Inspector Simon Ross in ''Cold Squad'' but he is internationally best known for his role as the 5000-year-old Immortal Methos in the hit syndicated series '' Highlander: The Series''. He also portrayed Dr. James Watson in ''Sanctuary''. Wingfield studied medicine before becoming a successful actor, and later returned to medicine as an anesthesiologist. Acting career Wingfield has appeared in numerous North American television productions for both Canadian and U.S. companies, including the portrayal of Dr Robert Helm in ''Queen of Swords'' filmed in Spain at Texas Hollywood, Almeria, and the surrounding Tabernas Desert. Watcher (Highlander)
The Watchers is fictional order of humans who record the lives and activities of immortals in '' Highlander: The Series'' and '' Highlander: The Raven,'' as well as related stories and movies. In the '' Highlander'' franchise, Immortals are humans born with an energy called the Quickening that activates after a violent death. From then on, they are ageless and heal from all wounds, only dying if beheaded. Able to take each other's Quickening through killing, many immortals wage a secret war called the Game, believing that one day the last few will meet for the Gathering and a final battle will take place. The survivor will win the Prize, the collected power of all immortals who ever lived, enough power to enslave humanity or lead it into a golden age. Duncan MacLeod
Duncan MacLeod is a fictional character and the protagonist of '' Highlander: The Series,'' which ran for six seasons from 1992 to 1998. The character also starred in two spin-off films, '' Highlander: Endgame'' and '' Highlander: The Source''. Portrayed by British actor Adrian Paul, Duncan is born in the Scottish Highlands in 1592, a member of the Clan MacLeod, and later discovers he is an immortal, a person born with the power of the Quickening. This means he is unable to die unless beheaded, and he can absorb the power and knowledge of other immortals he beheads. Joe Dawson (Highlander)
Joe Dawson is a fictional character in the ''Highlander'' franchise, created for the live-action TV show '' Highlander: The Series''. A marine who leaves active service after losing his legs during the Vietnam War, he finds a new calling by joining the order of Watchers, people who record the lives and actions of immortals who secretly live on Earth. His main assignment during the course of the show is to chronicle the life of protagonist Duncan MacLeod, an immortal swordsman born in the Scottish Highlands. The Raven
"The Raven" is a narrative poem by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. First published in January 1845, the poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow descent into madness. The lover, often identified as a student,Meyers, 163Silverman, 239 is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. Sitting on a bust of Pallas, the raven seems to further distress the protagonist with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore". The poem makes use of folk, mythological, religious, and classical references. Kurgan (Highlander)
The Kurgan is a fictional character from the first '' Highlander'' film. He is portrayed by Clancy Brown. He is an Immortal and the main antagonist to Connor MacLeod in '' Highlander'', and the latter's ultimate opponent in the Gathering.
