Arthur Metcalf
Arthur Metcalf (8 April 1889 – 9 February 1936) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Metcalf played for a number of amateur clubs in the north-east, before earning a professional contract with Newcastle United in 1909. He could not break into the first team at St. James' Park, however, only making twelve first team appearances before joining Liverpool in 1912. His time at Anfield was largely successful, he finished as the club's top scorer in his first season with 28 goals, and featured in the FA Cup final a year later. Injury struck, however, and he missed much of the 1914–15 season. He was prolific during wartime football, but was not offered a new contract at the end of the conflict, and went on to have a journeyman career, playing for five more clubs before retiring in 1926. Douglas R. Metcalf is an American clarinetist who has garnered acclaim as a performer and educator throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Life Douglas Metcalf was born in Southwick, Massachusetts and studied with Michael Sussman and Allan Meyer, graduating with honors from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in both Music Education and Clarinet Performance. He went on to do postgraduate studies at Indiana University in Bloomington with Eli Eban. He has performed under the baton of James Conlon, Peter Oundjian, Hans Vonk, David Zinman, Robert Stern and chamber music performances with members of the Berlin Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and many others. James Metcalf (artist)
James "Jimmy" Metcalf (March 11, 1925 – January 27, 2012) was an American sculptor, artist and educator. Metcalf established and led a community for copper artisans in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, Mexico, from the 1970s until his death in 2012. Metcalf was born in New York City. His parents were both stained glass artists, most notably contributing to the windows for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Metcalf took up art and sculpture as a teenager. He enlisted in the 88th Infantry Division of the United States Army, nicknamed the Blue Devils, when he was 18 years old. Metcalf fought in northern Italy during World War II, and lost three of his fingers during combat at Furlo Pass. Metcalf attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and then enrolled at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. Harriet Morris "Holly" Metcalf (born March 25, 1958) is a six-time USA national/ Olympic team member in women's rowing, who won a gold medal in rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics for the women's eight.
