Metalchicks
Metalchicks are a Japanese rock duo supergroup. Their second album, ''St. Wonder,'' was the soundtrack to the 2006 film ''Warau Michael'' (distributed internationally as ''Arch Angels''). Metalchicks also composed the soundtrack of anime series ''Heroman''. The group regularly performs in Japan, and played at SXSW 2007 in the United States. Warau Michael
is a Japanese comedy manga series written and illustrated by . It was serialized in the manga magazine ''Hana to Yume'' from 1987 to 1988 and later collected as three volumes by Hakusensha. ''Warau Michael'' was adapted into a live-action film directed by in 2006. Its soundtrack was composed by rock duo supergroup Metalchicks. The film was screened internationally under the title ''Arch Angels'' and licensed for distribution in North America by Sentai Filmworks in 2016. ''Heroman'' (stylized as ''HEROMAN'') is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Marvel's Stan Lee and Bones. The manga was published in Square Enix's magazine ''Monthly Shōnen Gangan'' from August 2009 to October 2011, with its chapters collected in five ''tankōbon'' volumes. The 26-episode anime television series was broadcast on TV Tokyo from April to September 2010. Buffalo Daughter
Buffalo Daughter is a Japanese rock band formed in 1993. The three main members are suGar Yoshinaga (ex-Havana Exotica) on guitar, Yumiko Ohno (ex-Havana Exotica) on bass, and Moog (later changed to MoOog) Yamamoto on turntables and graphic design. The group had a drummer, Chica Ogawa, but after his departure they have had no permanent drummer and have hired different people to fill in as needed. In addition, the band is well known for using a number of electronic instruments, such as the TB-303, TR-606, Minimoog, shortwave radio, and other instruments. Although they emerged from Shibuya at about the same time as other Shibuya-kei acts, Yoshinaga does not believe the label accurately describes the band's music. DMBQ
DMBQ is a Japanese rock band from Tokyo, whose name stands for Dynamite Masters Blues Quartet. They are influenced by British and American rock music of the early 1970s, especially bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin. History DMBQ was formed in Hokkaido in 1989. The founding members were Shinji Masuko (vocals/guitar), Ryuuichi Watanabe (bass), and Yuka Yoshimura (drums). Shinji Masuko is a well-known journalist in Japan who has regular columns in several music, pornography and subculture magazines. He is a younger brother of Naozumi Masuko, who is a member of Dohatsuten. Yuka Yoshimura was also a member of OOIOO and Hatsuiku Status. A supergroup is a musical group whose members are successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups recorded albums together, after which they normally disband. Nippon Connection
Nippon Connection is a festival for Japanese film which takes place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, every year in early summer. The festival is organized by the nonprofit organization “Nippon Connection e.V.”. Nippon Connection has become the biggest platform for contemporary Japanese film worldwide, with about 17,000 participants in 2019. The 22nd festival edition will take place May 24 to 29, 2022. SXSW
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. OOIOO is a Japanese experimental rock band. The four-piece ensemble was founded by Yoshimi P-We (also known as Yoshimio), the drummer and occasional trumpeter for Boredoms. The band's origin lie in a photo shoot that Yoshimi was asked to do for a magazine. She invited a few of her friends to join her, and they created a fake band for the shoot, which they later decided to make real. The band quickly gained attention by being the opening act for Sonic Youth in 1997 on their Japan tour. According to AllMusic's Kieran McCarthy "It's next to impossible to describe their sound, because — by design — it rarely follows consistent patterns". Some of their music has been described as having "a majestic ebb and flow that suggests natural wonders" or a "witchy, tribal side".
