Mesquite Desert Dogs
The Mesquite Desert Dogs were an American professional basketball team based in Mesquite, Nevada. History On October 30, 2017, North American Premier Basketball (NAPB) announced a team would play in Mesquite, Nevada, for the league's inaugural 2018 season. On October 31, Paul Mokeski was named the head coach and general manager. On November 13, the team name was revealed as the Nevada Desert Dogs. After the inaugural NAPB season, the league was rebranded as The Basketball League (TBL) and on August 16, 2018, Mokeski was named the commissioner of the league. The Nevada Desert Dogs were also renamed the Mesquite Desert Dogs and assistant coach Carlnel Wiley was promoted to head coach and general manager for the 2019 season. The Basketball League (TBL), formerly North America Premier Basketball (NAPB), is a minor league basketball organization. The league began operating in North America in 2018 with eight teams, and expanded to over 44 teams as of 2022. The Basketball League is a professional basketball league providing player salaries from $500 to $6,500 per month, while teams operate on a budget of $125,000 to $250,000 per season. Rising Star Sports Ranch
Rising Star Sports Ranch Resort is a hotel resort and sports facility in Mesquite, Nevada. It originally began construction in 1996, as the Mesquite Star hotel-casino. Construction was delayed because of financial issues, but it began to pick up heavily in October 1997. The Mesquite Star opened on July 1, 1998, although owner NevStar Gaming faced further financial problems and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 1999. The Mesquite Star closed in March 2000, followed by a series of legal issues. It was purchased by Virgin River Casino Corporation, which later operated the facility without a casino as the Virgin River Convention Center. Paul Mokeski
Paul Mokeski (born January 3, 1957) is an American former basketball player and coach. Standing 7 ft 0 in, he played the center position. He played for five NBA teams, including six seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. Mokeski's last coaching position was as head coach of the Nevada Desert Dogs in North American Premier Basketball in 2018. Early career Mokeski played at Crespi Carmelite High School in Los Angeles, California. He went on to play two seasons at the University of Kansas, where he accumulated 680 rebounds, placing him 15th in school history. Professional career On the Bucks, Mokeski played a role as a key bench player on several deep playoff runs. During the 1984 NBA Playoffs, he averaged career postseason bests of 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in only 20 minutes a game. 2020 TBL Season
The 2020 TBL season is the third season of The Basketball League (TBL). In March 18, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the season was cancelled without completion. League changes Organization On June 29, 2019, league CEO Evelyn Magley announced Kayla Crosby as the director of team development for approving new teams. Crosby is the owner and founder of the Jamestown Jackals. Teams It was announced that the Albany Patroons had been sold to new ownership. The Yakima SunKings were not included as 2020 member and the Mesquite Desert Dogs withdrew due to the travel constraints as the only remaining west coast team. The league also added the Columbus Condors, Dayton Flight, Dallas Skyline, Gulf Coast Lions, Indy Express, Lewisville Yellow Jackets, and the Tri-State Admirals as expansion teams.
