Mesa Public Library
Mesa Public Library is the Los Alamos branch of the Los Alamos County Library System in New Mexico, United States. The library collection has more than 160,000 items which include books, CDs, DVDs, original paintings, and material in several foreign languages. The Southwest Collection contains over 3,400 fiction and nonfiction books about New Mexico and Arizona. History The library started in 1943 as a subscription library, after the donation of $5 by 70 families living in Los Alamos. In 1945 it became free and open to all. In 1985 a branch library opened in White Rock. Mesa Public Library Los Alamos New Mexico
A mesa is an isolated, flat-topped elevation, ridge or hill, which is bounded from all sides by steep escarpments and stands distinctly above a surrounding plain. Mesas characteristically consist of flat-lying soft sedimentary rocks capped by a more resistant layer or layers of harder rock, e.g. shales overlain by sandstones. The resistant layer acts as a caprock that forms the flat summit of a mesa. The caprock can consist of either sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and limestone; dissected lava flows; or a deeply eroded duricrust. Los Alamos, New Mexico
Los Alamos is an census-designated place in Los Alamos County, New Mexico, United States, that is recognized as the development and creation place of the atomic bomb—the primary objective of the Manhattan Project by Los Alamos National Laboratory during World War II. White Rock, New Mexico
White Rock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Los Alamos County, New Mexico. It is one of two major population centers in the county; the other is Los Alamos, New Mexico, Los Alamos (the county seat). The population was 5,725 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. It is largely a bedroom community for employees of Los Alamos National Laboratory and their families. Antoine Predock
Antoine Predock ( ; born 1936 in Lebanon, Missouri) is an American architect based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the principal of Antoine Predock Architect PC, the studio he founded in 1967. Predock first gained national attention with the La Luz community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The first national design competition he won was held by the Nelson Fine Arts Center at Arizona State University. Predock's work includes the Turtle Creek House, built in 1993 for bird enthusiasts along a prehistoric trail in Texas, the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College, and a new ballpark for the San Diego Padres, the Petco Park. He has also worked on international sites such as the National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Southern Taiwan and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
