Mervyn Jones (27 February 1922 – 23 February 2010) was a British novelist, journalist and biographer, the son of psychoanalyst Ernest Jones. Literary credits Mervyn Jones wrote 29 novels (five unpublished), including ''John and Mary'' (1966), the basis for the 1969 film, and ''Holding On'' (1973), which was adapted for television in 1977. Jones also wrote non-fiction, reportage and biography, including a fictional biography of Joseph Stalin in 1970 and a biography of his friend Michael Foot, the former Labour Party leader, in 1994. A former Communist, Jones wrote for the ''Daily Worker'', and later the '' New Reasoner'' and ''Tribune''; he was later assistant editor at the ''New Statesman''. Merfyn Jones (30 April 1931 – 4 October 2016) was a Welsh professional footballer who played for, among others, Scunthorpe United, Crewe Alexandra and Chester. Jones was born in Bangor, Gwynedd. John Kelly (diplomat)
John Philip Kelly, CMG, LVO, MBE (born 25 June 1941) is an Irish-born British diplomat who was Governor of the British overseas territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands from October 1996 to January 2000. Kelly was born in Tuam, County Galway and emigrated to England in 1958. He joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1959, and served at various British embassies and high commissions, and at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. Kelly was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1984. In 1989, he became Deputy Governor of Bermuda and was made a Lieutenant in the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) when Queen Elizabeth II visited the island in 1994.
