History Establishment The thirty-two London boroughs were established in 1965 by the London Government Act 1963. Mitcham is an area within the London Borough of Merton in South London, England. It is centred southwest of Charing Cross. Originally a village in the county of Surrey, today it is mainly a residential suburb, and includes Mitcham Common. It has been a settlement throughout recorded history. 2010 Merton London Borough Council Election
Elections for the London Borough of Merton were held on 6 May 2010. This was on the same day as other local elections in England and a national general election. Following the elections, a Labour minority administration was formed with the support of the three Merton Park Ward Residents Association councillors, this replaced the previous Conservative administration. Results Labour became the largest party in Merton, defeating the incumbent minority Conservative administration. Elections for the London Borough of Merton were held on 2 May 2002. This was on the same day as other local elections in England. These elections were held under new ward boundaries, which increased the number of councillors to sixty from fifty-seven. Labour remained in overall control of the council with a reduced majority. Results Between the last election and the polling day, an unusual number of seat changes had occurred. At a by-election in West Barnes on 9 November 2000, the Conservatives gained a seat from the Liberal Democrats. Of the 39 Labour councillors elected in 1998, one defected to the Green Party, three defected to independent Labour, one resigned from the party and one seat had become vacant in 2002. Elections for the London Borough of Merton were held on 7 May 1998 to elect members of Merton London Borough Council in London, England. This was on the same day as other local elections in England and a referendum on the Greater London Authority; in the latter, Merton voted in favour of creating the Greater London Authority by 72.2% on a 37.6% turnout. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party stayed in overall control of the council, despite losing one seat. There were some minor ward boundary changes which came into effect in December 1994; these affected Merton's boundaries with Sutton and Croydon. However, the number of council seats remained at fifty-seven. Morden
Morden is a district and town in south London, England, within the London Borough of Merton, in the ceremonial county of Greater London. It adjoins Merton Park and Wimbledon to the north, Mitcham to the east, Sutton to the south and Worcester Park to the west, and is around south-southwest of Charing Cross.
