Merri Dee
Mary Francine Dorham (Merri Dee); October 30, 1936 – March 16, 2022) was an American philanthropist and television journalist. Dee was best known for her work as an anchor/reporter at Chicago, Illinois, television station and national cable superstation WGN-TV (Channel 9) from 1972 to 1983, and director of community relations from 1983 to 2008. Dee served as president and member of the leadership council of the Illinois chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) from 2009 until her death in 2022. Merri Franquin
Merri Jean Baptiste Franquin (b. 19 October 1848, Lançon, Bouches-du-Rhône, France, d. 1934) was a French trumpeter, cornetist, and flugelhornist who was professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1894 until 1925. Franquin was a teacher of Eugène Foveau (1886–1957) who became professor of cornet at the Paris Conservatory in 1925. Georges Mager (1885–1950), who was principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1919 until 1950, studied in the cornet class under Joseph Mellet, but seems to have been influenced as well by the teachings of Franquin; Mager may have studied with him informally and certainly worked with several of his successful students.''Shamu, Geoffrey. 2009. Merrilyn Miriam Rose (born 24 January 1955) was a minister in the Beattie government and member for Currumbin in the Queensland Parliament.Crown Content ''Who's Who in Australia'' 2007, page 1771 Early life She was born Merrilyn Miriam Gittins in Kilcoy, Queensland in 1955 and attended Kilcoy State High School and St Rita's Clayfield. Career Rose was elected as the member for Currumbin at the 1992 Queensland election. After the 2001 election, the Premier of Queensland, Peter Beattie, appointed her Minister for Tourism and Racing. She was appointed Minister for Tourism, Racing and Fair Trading in 2001. Rose came under fire when it emerged that her son had driven her ministerial car to watch sporting events in Sydney, and also faced accusations of bullying staff. The controversy grew to a point that Beattie was forced to sack her from cabinet just before the 2004 election. Merri Creek
The Merri Creek is a waterway in southern parts of Victoria, Australia, which flows through the northern suburbs of Northcote. It begins near Wallan north of Melbourne and flows south for 70 km until it joins the Yarra River at Dights Falls. The area where the creek meets the river was traditionally the location for large gatherings of the Wurundjeri people and is suspected to have been the location for one of the earliest land treaties in Australia between Indigenous Australians and European settlers. The creek was the site of heavy industrial use throughout much of the 20th century, being home to quarries, landfills and accepting waste runoff from neighbouring factories. This has degraded the riparian ecology of the creek leaving behind pollutants such as heavy metals and various greases. Merri railway station is located on the Mernda line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Northcote, and it opened on 8 October 1889 as Northcote. It was renamed Merri on 10 December 1906. History Merri station opened on 8 October 1889, when the Inner Circle line was extended from North Fitzroy to Reservoir. Merri River
The Merri River, a perennial river of the Glenelg Hopkins catchment, is located in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. Course and features Formed by the confluence of the Spring Creek and Drysdale Creek, to the east of Grassmere. It flows generally south joined by two minor tributaries before reaching its mouth and emptying into Stingray Bay, part of the Southern Ocean, near the city of Warrnambool. The river descends over its course. Spring Creek starts to the east of Penshurst, just north of the Hamilton Highway while Drysdale Creek starts near the Woolsthorpe-Hexham Road. The Church of Saint-Merri or ''Église Saint-Merry'') is a parish church in Paris, located near the Centre Pompidou along the rue Saint Martin, in the 4th arrondissement on the Rive Droite (Right Bank). It is dedicated to the 8th century abbot of Autun Abbey, Saint Mederic, who came to Paris on pilgrimage and later died there in the year 700. In 884 Mederic was declared patron saint of the Right Bank. History A small chapel, called Saint-Pierre-des-Bois, existed on the in what was then a clearing. In about 700 AD. Saint Merri was buried there. Mederic, the future Saint Merri, was born in Autun in Burgundy, and is believed to have lived in the Benedictine Abbey there. He later went into the desert as a hermit.
