Geography The town is located on the Darling Downs near Highfields, NNW of Toowoomba. It is drained by the meandering Meringandan Creek which also formed the boundary between the Shire of Crows Nest and the Shire of Rosalie and separated it from neighboring Meringandan West History The name Meringandan is a corruption of the aboriginal words, ''Moorin'' meaning ''fire'' and ''Gandan'' meaning ''clay''. Therefore, Meringandan means 'place of fire and clay'. Following the settling of the Leslie brothers at Toolburra, near Warwick in 1840, Henry Hughes (1816-1882) and Henry Isaac (1816-1862) occupied Gowrie as a sheep run on the upper section of Gowrie Creek in 1841. Haden Railway Line
Haden Branch Railway was a branch railway line from Kingsthorpe to Goombungee and Haden in the Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia. Kingsthorpe is about twenty kilometres from Toowoomba on the Western railway line. The Queensland Parliament approved a branch line north to Goombungee and Haden in December 1908. The initial railway stations were Cutella, Yalangur, Boodua, Nara, Kudo, Goombungee, Bergen, and Wahoon. Cabarlah is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Cabarlah had a population of 1,075 people. Crows Nest Railway Line
Crows Nest Branch Railway was originally surveyed as a direct line from Toowoomba north to Crows Nest in Queensland, Australia. The branch eventually took a more circuitous route to cover the maximum amount of farming country. The first stage struck out from Pengarry Junction a short distance west of Toowoomba and continued via Birnan, Cawdor, Shirley, Woolmer, Meringandan and Kleinton to terminate at Cabarlah. It opened on 17 September 1883. Shortly after opening, a daily service was provided to Cabarlah. The second stage of the line to Crows Nest was opened on 6 December 1886 and stops were located en route at Geham, Mt Luke, Taylor, Hampton and Pechey.
