Meridian (comics)
''Meridian'' was a comic book series published by CrossGen Comics. It was written by Barbara Kesel, and penciled by a number of artists including Joshua Middleton and Steve McNiven. ''Meridian'' ran for 44 issues, from July of 2000 to April of 2004. Storyline details Meridian, the series' namesake, is one of many island city-states upon the world of Demetria. At some point in the world's history, a great natural cataclysm threw massive chunks of earth into the sky, creating the current system of floating islands. The islands, as well as the airships crucial to trade and transport, defy gravity due to the mysterious properties of a certain 'ore' which is not named. Each island is headed by a Minister, who has more or less monarchic power over their respective island, and while many communities still survive on the surface, contact and trade between the surface and the islands is rare. In comics, an ongoing series is a series that runs indefinitely. This is in contrast to limited series (a series intended to end after a certain number of issues thus limited), a one shot (a comic book which is not a part of an ongoing series), a graphic novel, or a trade paperback. Cross Generation Entertainment or CrossGen was an American comic book publisher and entertainment company that operated from 1998 to 2004. The company's assets were acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2004, and designated to Disney Publishing Worldwide. In July 2010, Disney re-established the brand through Marvel Comics, who announced plans to revive CrossGen titles. History CrossGen Comics, Inc., was founded in 1998, in Tampa, Florida, by entrepreneur Mark Alessi. In 1999, the company acquired the Orlando-based multi-genre fan convention MegaCon, from founder James Breitbiel. Breitbiel became CrossGen's Marketing and Distribution Director. In January 2000, CrossGen Comics, Inc. debuted with ''CrossGenesis'', a sneak-peek at the CrossGen universe. CrossGen Chronicles
''CrossGen Chronicles'' was an American comic book published by CrossGen Entertainment from June 2000 to July 2002. Each issue told a story from one of the different worlds in the Sigilverse, usually a historical narrative of some aspect. Issue #1 Sigilverse: A 48-page introduction issue that begins the narrative of the Sigilverse by introducing the First, who have gathered to discuss the sudden appearance of the universe's sigil-bearers, main characters in CrossGen's first wave of titles. Issue #2 Scion Tells the story of how Admiral Edvin ("the Peacemaker") of the Heron Dynasty and Admiral Alexi of the Raven Dynasty forged peace between the two Dynasties and initiated the Ritual of Combat on Tournament Isle. Negation War (comics)
''Negation War'' was a comic book series published by CrossGen Comics, and serving as a culmination of the metaplots of nearly all of CrossGen's other titles. It was cancelled after only two issues, in spring 2004, before the company declared bankruptcy and ended production on all their titles. It was intended to answer many, if not all, of the questions surrounding CrossGen's metaplot, allowing the company to move on to new titles and perhaps a new company-wide metaplot. Plot The events of ''Negation War'' revolve around the invasion of CrossGen's Sigilverse, i.e. the mainstream universe where all the other titles take place, by the forces of an alternate universe known as the Negation. ''Sigil'' is an American comic book series published by Cross Gen Entertainment from July 2000 to December 2003, ending at issue forty-two. ''Sigil'' was one of the publisher's first four titles (the others are '' Mystic'', ''Scion'', and ''Meridian''), originally created by Mark Alessi and Gina M. Villa. The book is one of many from the publisher that took place in the Sigilverse, or the Cross Generation universe. In 2011, ''Sigil'' was part of Marvel Comics' relaunch of the Cross Generation Universe. ''The First'' is a comic book series published by CrossGen featuring the First, very powerful, nearly immortal beings each based on a certain emotion. Due to CrossGen's bankruptcy in 2004, the plot of ''The First'', both in their own self-titled comic and CrossGen's other titles, was cut short. The role of the First in the ''Negation War'', a storyline in which the Sigil-Bearers and First were meant to defend the universe against invaders from another universe, is therefore unclear. Characters *Altwaal is the first ''god'' and was the most powerful of all The First. He is shown as a white-haired, blue-eyed and powerfully-built superhuman with a commanding face. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. Mark Alessi
Mark Albert Alessi (August 28, 1953 – March 29, 2019) was an American businessman who was the CEO of a number of companies, most notably as the founder of comic publisher CrossGen where he created a number of the titles. Biography Alessi's first major company was Technical Resource Connection, Inc, which he founded in 1986. He was CEO of this company until 1996, at which time the company was sold to Perot Systems Corporation. He later, in 1998, became founder and publisher of CrossGen comics, which subsequently liquidated in 2004 and the company and its assets were sold to Disney. He then became the CEO of TOA Solutions, Inc, a company that he founded in 2004. He died of a sudden massive coronary arrest on March 29, 2019, at the age of 65.
