Mered De Vries
Mered de Vries (born 25 September 1977) is a retired Dutch professional beach volleyball and indoor volleyball player born in the small village of Harich in Friesland. De Vries played seven seasons at Dutch highest league participants AMVJ before she moved to Italy to play for Asystel Milan and Busto Arsizio. After 1.5 year in Italy she returned to the Netherlands and AMVJ to play there another year. She started her international beach volleyball career in 2001 and teamed up with Elske van Diepen. They only played one international tournament together. During the years 2002, 2003 and 2004, de Vries teamed up with six different players without hardly making any progress. When she met Patricia Labee in 2005, she introduced her to beach volleyball. Together they finished 5th in only their third international tournament in Alba Adriatica. Harich, Friesland
Harich is a village in De Fryske Marren municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 470 in 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1245 as Harich, and means holy place. Harich developed on a sandy ridge around the church. The tower of the Protestant church probably dates from the 12th century. The church itself was rebuilt in 1663 after a storm. In 1840, it was home to 279 people. In 1942, the forced labour camp Wyldemerk Harich was opened in the forests near Harich. Marrit Leenstra (volleyball)
Marrit Leenstra (born 18 October 1973) is a Dutch professional beach volleyball and indoor volleyball player born in Emmen, Drenthe. Leenstra started her career in 1983 playing indoor volleyball for OSV Pegasus Ter Apel. She also played for Etiflex Ommen, Martinus Amstelveen, Vini Monteschiavo Jesi, Granzotto San Dona, Fiqurella Firenze and Mirabi Iandia Teodora Ravenna. From 1988 to 1992 she was part of Dutch youth teams. In 1992 she joined the Dutch senior volleyball team and was selected for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, finishing sixth. Four years later, during the 1996 Summer Olympics she and her team finished fifth. Leenstra remained in the Dutch team until 1998. Sanne Keizer
Sanne Keizer (born 6 February 1985) is a Dutch beach volleyball player who plays as a right-side defender with her partner Madelein Meppelink. Her career highlights include two gold, two silver and four bronze medals on the FIVB World Tour. She is a two-time European Champion and she represented the Netherlands at the 2012 Summer Olympics, finishing ninth with Marleen van Iersel. Keizer took up indoor volleyball at the age of 11 and spent several years playing in the Dutch volleyball leagues. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court.
