Mercy Myra Grundberg, better known as Mercy Myra, is an R&B musician from Kenya. Biography In 1996, she joined the ''Calabash Band'' but left it the next year to join the R&B group ''Destinee'' and in 1997 she joined a band called ''Black Ice''. The KORA All Africa Music Awards are music awards given annually for musical achievement in sub-Saharan Africa. The awards were founded in 1994 by Benin born businessman, Ernest Adjovi, after a discussion in Namibia with the country's President Hage Geingob. The award is named after the kora, a West African plucked chordophone. The awards have been subject to several postponements since 1994 with a variety of reasons given. Problems have arisen with contracts signed, large sums of monies have been paid and the event postponed. In 2011 Adjovi was detained by the Nigerian Police Force with allegations he defrauded three Nigerian bodies. In 2008 Adjovi allegedly accepted S2.5 million for the 2008 Awards to be hosted by the Cross River State Government. Princess Jully
Princess Jully (real name Lilian Auma Aoka) is a benga musician from Kenya. Early life Lilian Auma Aoka was born in the village of Makalda in South Nyanza, in southwestern part of Kenya. Her father died when she was one week old, leaving her mother, a small-scale farmer, as the family's provider. Lilian was the youngest of nine children (six survived infancy). Her grandmother, Benta Nyar Kanyamkago Nyagolima, was the first woman chief in Nyanza Province and a respected singer and musician. Lilian attended school through Form One, the first year of secondary school in Kenya. K-South was a Kenyan hip-hop duo made up of "Bamboo" (Tim Kimani) and "Doobeez'" (Jerry Manzekele), now known as "Abbas Kubaff". Founded in 1995, K-South is among the most notable pioneers of the genre in Kenya. The name is an abbreviation of Kariobangi South, the Nairobi neighbourhood where they were based. The group used both English and Swahili raps in their music. The band's first album, ''Nairobbery'', was released in 2002 by Samawati Studios and contains some of their earliest hits, such as "Tabia Mbaya".
