Mercury Cycling Team
The Mercury Cycling Team was an American professional cycling team. It was founded in 1992 as an amateur team by John Wordin and Thurlow Rogers, with Whole Foods , Mrs. Gooch's Natural Foods Markets as the lead sponsor in 1992 and 1994. Before Mercury (automobile), Mercury took over title sponsorship from 1998–1999 and 2001–2002 the team raced under various title sponsors including Miller Lite (1993), San Joaquin Figs, Nutra Fig (1995–1996), Comptel Data Systems, LLC, Comptel Data Systems (1997), and Manheim Auctions (2000). The team was named Velo News North American Team of the Year from 1996 to 2002 and won 535 races from 1998 to 2002. The team was disbanded after the 2002 season. Chris Horner
Christopher Brandon Horner (born October 23, 1971) is an American retired professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 1996 and 2019, and is the most recent American rider to win a Grand Tour. A current resident of Bend, Oregon, Horner dominated the American road racing scene by winning the points standings in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar. He won the Vuelta a España in 2013, becoming the oldest winner of any of cycling's grand tours in the process. David Clinger
David Clinger (born November 22, 1977 in Los Angeles) is a former professional road racing cyclist from the United States. He represented his native country at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In 2010, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency banned him for 2 years for use of synthetic testosterone and modafinil. In August 2011, David Clinger was issued a lifetime doping ban by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after testing positive during a random test while serving a prior doping ban. Clinger accepted responsibility for using clenbuterol for performance-enhancing purposes, USADA said. The second violation prompted USADA to issue the lifetime competition ban. Derek Bouchard-Hall
Derek Bouchard-Hall (born July 16, 1970) is a former US professional cyclist, whose career highlights include winning the gold medal in the team pursuit at the 1999 Pan American Games, winning the 2000 United States National Criterium Championships, and competing on the 2000 US Olympic team in Sydney, Australia. Levi Leipheimer
Levi Leipheimer (born October 24, 1973) is an American former professional road racing cyclist. He was twice US national champion, winning the time trial title in 1999 and the road race in 2007, and is an Olympic medalist. Leipheimer was born and raised in Butte, Montana and resides in Santa Rosa, California. He is the patron of the widely attended King Ridge GranFondo, a mass participation ride in Sonoma County. Gord Fraser (cyclist)
Gordon "Gord" Fraser (born November 19, 1968) is a Canadian former professional road racing cyclist. As a rider he specialised in sprinting. Fraser is a three-time Olympian and four-time Commonwealth Games participant and has over 200 career wins including becoming the 2004 Canadian national road race champion. He also rode in the 1997 Tour de France and won the US National Race Calendar series twice. He retired from professional cycling at the end of the 2006 season after racing four seasons for the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis. Hendricus "Henk" Vogels (born 31 July 1973, in Perth) is an Australian former professional road bicycle racer who retired from competition at the end of the 2008 season, riding with the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team. He won the Australian national road race title in 1999. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He was subsequently directeur sportif of the Fly V-Successful Living team. Vogels also provides expert opinion for SBS Cycling Central. Jonathan James Vaughters (born June 10, 1973) is an American former professional racing cyclist and current manager of UCI WorldTeam . Racing career Vaughters started competitive cycling in the 1980s, racing in the Red Zinger Mini Classics youth cycling series in Colorado. In 1997 he moved to John Wordin's Comptel Data team, entering races he described as "A thousand times easier than being in Europe." He had a successful season becoming US National Time Trial Champion, and was 3rd in the National Road Race. His successes led to him signing for U.S. Postal Service cycling team. In 1999, he won the time trial of the Dauphiné Libéré and finished 2nd overall to Alexandre Vinokourov after losing the general classification leadership on the final stage. Pavel Sergeyevich Tonkov (russian: Павел Сергеевич Тонков; born 9 February 1969 in Izhevsk) is a former professional road racing cyclist from Russia. His talents were first showcased when winning the world junior title as part of the Soviet Union team in 1987. This alerted the world to his talents, and he turned pro in 1992 with the RUSS-Baïkal team. Professional career His biggest success was the overall win in the 1996 Giro d'Italia. He went on to place 2nd in the following two editions of the Italian race and all total he placed in the top 5 of the Giro on seven occasions.
