Mercury (American Music Club Album)
''Mercury'' is the sixth studio album by American indie rock band American Music Club. It was released in March 1993 on Reprise Records as their major-label debut. Virgin Records released the album in the United Kingdom. "I've Been a Mess" remained a staple of the band's concerts. The album's title comes from a beverage featured in the lyrics of "Challenger." Release "Johnny Mathis' Feet" and "Keep Me Around" were released as singles from ''Mercury''. The "Johnny Mathis' Feet" CD had a 10-track bonus live CD; it was recorded at Slim's in San Francisco on June 15, 1993, and is usually called ''Live at Slim's''. A black-and-white 11-minute promotional VHS tape, generally referred to as "1992 press kit," was issued in advance of the album's release. ''Q'' was a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''. ''Q'''s final issue was published in July 2020. ''Q'' was originally published by the EMAP media group and set itself apart from much of the other music press with monthly production and higher standards of photography and printing. Vudi is the nickname of Mark Pankler (born 22 September 1952, Chicago), guitarist with San Francisco based indie rock band American Music Club. He is also the vocalist and guitarist in San Francisco based indie rock band Clovis de Floret. He also played guitar and keyboards with Swans on their 1995 tour, and hence appeared on the double live album Swans Are Dead. Vudi played on Red's Recovery Room. Tim Mooney
Tim Mooney (October 6, 1958 – June 13, 2012) was an American drummer, producer, and sound engineer. He drummed in the Sleepers, Toiling Midgets, Negative Trend, Sun Kil Moon and American Music Club. Musical career In the 1970s and 1980s, Mooney played drums for a number of San Francisco punk and rock bands for The Sleepers (San Francisco band), Toiling Midgets, Negative Trend, and many others. Mooney became a member of American Music Club in 1991. His last album with the band was '' Love Songs for Patriots'' (2004), which he also produced and engineered. In 1998, Tim married Jude Mooney and had his only child, Dixie Mooney in 2000. Mooney moved to Petaluma, California in 1999. On June 13, 2012, Mooney passed away at age 53 due to complications from a heart attack. He was mourned by his former bandmates Mark Eitzel and Mark Kozelek. The Hold Steady is an American rock band originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, now based in Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2003. Franz Nicolay (born 1977) is an American musician and writer. He is best known for playing the accordion and piano in The World/Inferno Friendship Society and keyboards in The Hold Steady from 2005 to 2010 and again from 2016 onwards. He is also notable for founding Anti-Social Music, a composer/performer collective based in New York City, and for performing in the Balkan jazz quartet Guignol.
