Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane is an annual fashion industry event held in Brisbane, Australia. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane began in 2006 and is held over six days in late August of each year. It features the latest spring-summer season collections available in stores. It is one of the most important fashion week events in Australia and the Queensland's premier fashion event. The event is recognized as the showcase for emerging Queensland fashion designers. It also features some of Australian top designers and their labels and international designers. Lindsay Bennett is festival director and founder and Mercedes-Benz is the main sponsor. In 2009, the festival featured 40 designers in 10 Group Shows, opening and closing events, a fashion forum, exhibitions and fashion workshops. Juli Grbac
Juli Grbac (born 1978) is an Australian fashion designer who was the first winner of ''Project Runway Australia''. Hailing from Brisbane, Grbac developed a love of fashion at a young age and was taught to sew by her mother, who also worked as a dressmaker. Grbac studied fashion design at Gateway TAFE in Brisbane, and then at London's Central Saint Martins. Upon her return from London, she worked as a hand sewer for various companies, including luxury brand Easton and Pearson, before starting her own label "Grbac" in 2002. "Grbac" was stocked in some of Australia's most high end retail stores including Jean Brown Robe. Grbac also opened a stand-alone store in the TC Beirne Centre in Fortitude Valley's Brunswick Street Mall, which closed two years later. Lisa Ho (born 1960) is an Australian fashion designer born in Albury, on the New South Wales and Victorian border. Early life Ho began sewing at age 4 inspired by her grandmother of African descent, a tailor, whom Ho says she 'probably drove mad'.
