Meral Danış Beştaş (born 5 April 1967) is a Turkish politician from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), who has served as a Member of Parliament since 7 June 2015. Early life and education Born in Mardin, Beştaş graduated from Dicle University Faculty of Law in 1990. She was detained on the 16 November 1993, together with her husband, accused of being a courier for the PKK. Between the 15 November 1993 and 21 December 1993, 16 lawyers who defended clients accused of being affiliated with the PKK were detained. Beştaş was released on the 10 December 1993 together with 12 other lawyers. Early life Okay was born on September 20, 1959 in Ankara to military judge Ata Katı and Türkan as the second child.
