Meon Valley Stud
Meon Valley Stud is a horse breeding farm, based at Dean Farm, Bishop's Waltham in Hampshire. Founded in 1980 by Egon Weinfeld, it has produced numerous major winners. History Dean Farm had been the training base of Bill Wightman, best known for handling the steeplechaser Halloween. After Wightman left the farm after the Second World War the land was used for arable farming before being acquired in 1979 by Egon Weinfeld (1928–2013) who founded the Meon Valley Stud. Weinfeld was an Austrian-born businessman who had come to Britain as an eleven-year-old refugee and had established Helena Springfield Ltd as a successful textile business. John Gosden described him as "an extraordinary breeder and a brilliant man". One So Wonderful
One So Wonderful (4 May 1994 – February 2012) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. A temperamental filly who was sometimes difficult to train, she is best known for winning the International Stakes in 1998. After winning on her only appearance as a two-year-old she won both her races in 1997 including the Sun Chariot Stakes. She was beaten on her debut as a four-year-old but then won the Golden Daffodil Stakes before defeating male opposition in the International Stakes. She was beaten in her two remaining races and was retired to stud where she had modest success as a broodmare. Background One So Wonderful was a bay filly with a small white star bred by Egon Weinfeld's Meon Valley Stud in Hampshire. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. The Galtres Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to fillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at York over a distance of 1 mile 3 furlongs and 188 yards (2,385 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. Anapurna (horse)
Anapurna (foaled 31 March 2016) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse, best known for winning the 2019 Epsom Oaks. After finishing unplaced on her only start as a juvenile she won a minor race on her three-year-old debut and went on to win the Lingfield Oaks Trial before winning the Oaks on her fourth start. She took a second Group 1 success later that year when she won the Prix de Royallieu. Background Anapurna is a bay filly with a small white star bred by the Hampshire-based Meon Valley Stud. The San Diego Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in late July/early August at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. This Grade II race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt.
