Leslie Peacocke
Captain Leslie Tufnell Peacocke (1872 - March 5, 1941) was an actor, screenwriter, and director in the United States. He was born in Bangalore, British Raj and served in the Connaught Rangers before emigrating to the United States. In 1919 he wrote on behalf of Democracy Film Corporation about producing a film adaptation of ''The Souls of Black Folk''. His film ''Injustice'' was a response to Thomas Dixon Jr.'s ''The Clansman''. His book ''Hints on Photoplay Writing'' from his articles in ''Photoplay Magazine'' was published in 1916. A photo of the author appears at the beginning of the book. His films include adaptations of stories by Florence Herrington. He was an actor in the 1929 show ''A Comedy of Women'' at the Ambassador Theatre. Vola Vale
Vola Vale (born Vola Smith; February 12, 1897 – October 17, 1970) was a silent film actress. Early career Vale was born in Buffalo, New York and educated in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Her high school friends in Rochester, New York, where she was raised, knew her as Vola Smith. She began her career in amateur theatricals in Rochester. Then she played in stock companies for a while. After working under Bert Lytell on stage, in 1916 Vale began working in film for Biograph, under the tutelage of the film director D.W. Griffith. After a month of playing ''atmosphere parts'', Vola was offered a genuine role. She wore a velvet gown with a train and a feathered hat. Soon she was appearing in short reel films for Biograph. Among the actors she was cast with were William S. Hart, Sessue Hayakawa, Tsuru Aoki, William Haines, Harry Carey, Tully Marshall and William Russell. The General Film Company was a motion picture distribution company in the United States. Between 1909 and 1920, the company distributed almost 12,000 silent era motion pictures. Formation The General Film Company was formed by the Motion Picture Patents Company (MPPC) in an attempt to monopolize distribution. In 1909, the General Film Company tried to seize the equipment of independent distribution companies to discourage their activities. Conflict Using their control over several film patents, the General Film Company and MPPC tried to force independent distribution companies to sell out or lose their patent licenses. Competing organizations, such as the Motion Picture Distributing and Sales Company, the National Independent Moving Picture Alliance and the Film Service Association, emerged to challenge the trust. Gordon Sackville (born 1880 - August 6, 1926) was a film actor. Earlier in his career he appeared on stage. He was part of several Hobart Bosworth productions. He was in '' The Best Man Wins'', one of the first Hollywood films. Sackville was born in Peterborough, Ontario. He died of a stroke in 1926.
