Menezes
Menezes, sometimes Meneses, was originally a Portuguese toponymic surname which originated in Montes Torozos, a region in Tierra de Campos, northeast of Valladolid and southeast of Palencia. The ancestor of the Meneses lineage was Tello Pérez de Meneses. The family wealth and power grew remarkably in the 13th and 14th centuries, through several marriages with the Castilian and Portuguese royal families. Luís de Menezes Bragança ( Konkani: ''लुईझ दॆ मॆनॆज़ॆस ब्रागान्सा''; 15 January 1878 – 10 July 1938), alternatively spelled as Luís de Menezes Braganza, was a prominent Indian journalist, writer, politician and anti-colonial activist from Goa. He was one of the few Goan aristocrats who actively opposed the Portuguese colonisation of Goa. During his lifetime, Menezes Bragança was widely hailed around the Lusosphere (Portuguese speaking world) as ''"O Maior de todos"'' ("The Greatest of all Goans") and in the Indian mainland as "The Tilak of Goa". Artur Menezes (born July 14, 1997) is a Brazilian blues and blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. He has released five albums since 2010, with the most recent, ''Fading Away'' (2020), being released by Vizztone Records. That same year, Menezes got his Green Card granted by the US government, specifically because of his contribution to the blues. Margareth Menezes (born October 13, 1962) is a Brazilian singer from Salvador, Bahia. Her style is considered axé but her music also steers into samba and MPB territory, at times drawing on African rhythms and reggae. Menezes is best known in Brazil for her song "Me Abraça e Me Beija", a major hit in 1990. She also scored another hit with "Dandalunda", a song which became the unofficial anthem of the 2003 Salvador carnival. Menezes has achieved superstardom in her native Bahia but only moderate success in wider Brazil. Philadelpho Menezes (born in 1960 in São Paulo, Brazil, died in 2000 following a car accident). Professor Armando Menezes (1902–1983) was an Indian civil servant, writer, academic and poet who wrote in English. Biography He was born on 11 May 1902 in, São Matias, Divar, Goa. After a Portuguese education in Goa, he completed his higher studies at the Bombay University. At the M.A. Examination of the university he obtained the coveted Chancellor's gold medal in Latin.
