Memurubu
Memurubu is a tourist hut in Norway, at the end or start of the famous Besseggen hiking trail. Memurubu is originally an old mountain pasture dating back to 1872, but has had tourists just as long. Cows are still grazing around the tourist hut, which lies at the mouth of the river Muru in the valley Memurudalen. After a fire destroyed the original lodge in 1998 it was rebuilt. The new facility has a few family rooms with shower and bathrooms, although most of the 150 bunks are in double or quadruple occupancy rooms. Memurubu was the fourth cabin in Norway set up by Norwegian Mountain Touring Association (DNT) but is now privately owned, though members of DNT obtain cheaper prices. The lodge produces its own green power from its hydroelectric generator. Hiking along the Besseggen trail, one ends at Gjendesheim at the eastern end of the lake Gjende. Muru (Lom)
Muru is a river in Lom Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The long river runs through the Memurudalen valley in the Jotunheimen mountains. It originates on the mountain Memurutinden at the glacier Austre Memurubrean and runs through Memurudalen valley and then finally empties into the lake Gjende right next to Memurubu. The river is the primary source for the lake Gjende. One of the unique aspects of the lake Gjende is that the water has a distinct green color which is the result of glacial runoff containing clay (rock flour). Looking down towards Memurubu one can see the river Muru coloring the water with a light colored runoff. The river is used for kayaking, however, there is no nearby road access and kayakers must carry their kayaks up the river. Gjende
Gjende or Gjendin is a lake in Vågå Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the Jotunheimen mountain range and also inside Jotunheimen National Park. The proglacial lake shows typical characteristics of glacial formation, being long and narrow, with steep walls. The lake is in length and only in width at the broadest point. Gjende has a characteristic light-green color resulting from the large quantity of rock flour which is discharged into the Gjende by the Muru river. The river Sjoa provides the outlet from Gjende at Gjendesheim, and flows eastward into the Gudbrandsdalslågen river. Gjende lies in the middle of Jotunheimen National Park and both to the north and south of the lake lie peaks with elevations reaching greater than . Besseggen
Besseggen or Besseggi is a mountain ridge in Vågå Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain ridge is located in the Jotunheimen mountains within Jotunheimen National Park. The mountain sits about southwest of the village of Vågåmo and about northwest of the village of Beitostølen. The mountain ridge is surrounded by several other notable mountains including Veslfjellet to the east and Besshø to the northwest. The ridge runs between the lakes Gjende and Bessvatnet. The walk over Besseggen is one of the most popular mountain hikes in Norway. About 30,000 people walk this trip each year. Gjendesheim
Gjendesheim Turisthytte has been a staffed lodge with Norwegian Mountain Touring Association (In Norwegian, Den Norske Turistforening – DNT) Oslo og Omegn as proprietor since 1878, and is located in the heart of the Norwegian mountains. The lodge can accommodate 170 guests in bedrooms with 1, 2 and 4 beds and four dormitories. The standard is simple; with bunks and joint shower/WC. Gjendesheim is situated at the east end of Gjende lake, 1000 meters above sea level by the in Vågå municipality. It is located about 2 km from Maurvangen off Riksvei 51. Gjendebu
Gjendebu is the oldest cabin of the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association (DNT). The cabin lies 995 metres above sea level, by the western end of the lake Gjende, central in Jotunheimen. It is accessible by hiking along marked trails, or by boat over Gjende from Gjendesheim. The cabin was built in 1871 and was at that time 45 m² and with 12 beds, today there are 119 beds. Surtningssue
Surtningssue or Surtningssui is a mountain on the border of Vågå Municipality and Lom Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is the seventh-highest mountain in Norway. It is located in the Jotunheimen mountains within Jotunheimen National Park. The mountain sits about southeast of the village of Fossbergom and about southwest of the village of Vågåmo. Norwegian Mountain Touring Association
The Norwegian Trekking Association ( no, Den norske turistforening, DNT) is a Norwegian association which maintains mountain trails and cabins in Norway. The association was founded on 21 January 1868 with the scope "to help and develop tourism in this country". Today the goal is to work for simple, secure and natural environment, environmentally friendly outdoor activities. DNT has currently more than 300,000 individual members, and 57 local chapters. It also has several "honorary members", prominent people who have shown a keen interest in Norwegian nature and given the country publicity as a tourist destination, among them Kofi Annan and Katie Melua. Green Power is a non-governmental organisation in Hong Kong founded in 1988, concerned with the city's environmental issues.
