Memoriam
Memoriam are an English death metal band from Birmingham signed with Nuclear Blast. It was founded in 2016 by former Bolt Thrower singer Karl Willetts and Benediction (band), Benediction bassist Frank Healy. Scott Fairfax plays guitar and Andy Whale (also a former member of Bolt Thrower) was their drummer until 2020, when the latter was replaced by Spike T. Smith. The band has released four studio albums, two of which reached the charts in Germany, ''For the Fallen'' at number 16 and ''The Silent Vigil'' at number 32. On 21 June 2019 the third album ''Requiem for Mankind'' was released. The band played at several notable festivals such as Wacken Open Air (2017) and Rock Hard Festival (2018). In an interview, Willetts has stated that, this band was formed as a tribute to the late Bolt Thrower drummer Martin Kearns. Karl Willetts
Karl Willetts (born 21 September 1966) is an English death metal vocalist, best known as the lead singer of Bolt Thrower and Memoriam. Biography Willetts joined the British death metal band Bolt Thrower in 1988. Before that, he drove the backline of the band. He stayed with Bolt Thrower until 1994, after the recording of '' ...For Victory''. He left the band mainly because he wanted to go back to university and finish his degree. Willetts rejoined as a session vocalist for the recording of ''Mercenary'' and left shortly thereafter because of financial reasons and lack of commitment. In the meantime, he got a job as a salesman of insurances besides other jobs. He resides in Solihull. Rumours persisted he had returned in 2001, but he did not. Frank Healy
Francis "Frank" Healy (born in Handsworth, Birmingham, England) is a former Napalm Death guitarist. Healy also was the bass player for Cerebral Fix. He also played bass in the first live Anaal Nathrakh session for the John Peel show. He was the bassist in the band Benediction from 1991 until 2017. Bolt Thrower
Bolt Thrower were an English death metal band from Coventry. They formed in 1986 and released their first album with Vinyl Solution in 1988. The band then shifted to a new record label, Earache Records, soon becoming one of the best selling bands on that label. Their last label was Metal Blade Records. The band had a succession of members, and had toured Europe, the United States, and Australia. Over the course of their 30-year career, Bolt Thrower released eight studio albums, three EPs, one live album, three compilation albums and two demos. On 14 September 2016 the band announced that they were breaking up, following the death of drummer Martin Kearns exactly a year earlier. Martin Kearns
Martin Kearns (7 March 1977 – 14 September 2015) was an English drummer, specializing in death metal, known for his association with Bolt Thrower since 1994. He joined the band at age 17 after playing in several local bands in Coventry, playing anything from metal to reggae, having been playing pub gigs since the age of 14. Bolt Thrower Kearns subsequently left due to personal reasons in 1998, he returned to Bolt Thrower in 2000. Martin was the longest standing drummer for Bolt Thrower. He recorded drums on both the '' Honour-Valour-Pride'' album, and on '' Those Once Loyal'', the latter of which has been met with widespread critical acclaim from magazines such as ''Rock Sound'', '' Rock Hard'' and ''Metal Hammer''. Death Kearns died unexpectedly at the age of 38, on 14 September 2015. Rock Hard Festival
Rock Hard Festival is a heavy metal festival organized and sponsored by the ''Rock Hard'' magazine. First established in Lichtenfels, Bavaria, Germany, in 1990 on an irregular basis, mostly for magazine anniversaries, it is held annually in Gelsenkirchen, since 2003. Its 2016 edition was taken place on 13–15 May 2016. The 2003 festival was also initially planned for the 20th anniversary of the magazine as a single event. But the fans voted it as the best metal open-air in Germany and so they continued. The festival is still held at the amphitheater which is located directly at the Rhein-Herne-Kanal in the Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen. The amphitheater has a maximum capacity of 7,000 people.
