Memorial To Victims Of Stalinist Repression
The Train of Pain – Memorial to Victims of Stalinist Repression ( ro, Trenul durerii – Monumentul în memoria victimelor deportărilor regimului comunist) is a monument in Chișinău, Moldova. A temporary stone was unveiled in 1990 in Chișinău railway station, Central Station Square commemorating the Soviet deportations from Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, 1940–1951 mass deportations in Soviet Moldavia. A permanent memorial was completed at the site in 2013. The sculptural element was assembled in Belarus. Chișinău ( , , ), also known as Kishinev (russian: Кишинёв, r=Kishinjóv ), is the Capital city, capital and largest city of the Republic of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial center, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Bîc River, Bâc, a tributary of the Dniester. According to the results of the 2014 Moldovan census, 2014 census, the city proper had a population of 532,513, while the population of the Municipality of Chișinău (which includes the city itself and other nearby communities) was 700,000. Chișinău Railway Station
Chișinău railway station ( ro, Gara feroviară din Chișinău) is the main railway station serving Chișinău, Moldova. It is located on 1 Aleea Garii, not far from the centre of the city. International services In addition to local trains, international services operate from Chișinău to Bucharest, Kyiv, Moscow (all daily), Minsk (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday), and Warsaw (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Daily trains also run to Saint Petersburg and Odesa. There are several trains each week to Iași in Romania, and daily services to Tiraspol. The station is equipped as an international port of entry/exit, with a customs hall, and border control. Soviet Deportations From Bessarabia And Northern Bukovina
The Soviet deportations from Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina took place between late 1940 and 1951 and were part of Joseph Stalin's policy of political repression of the potential opposition to the Soviet power (see Population transfer in the Soviet Union). The deported were typically moved to so-called "special settlements" (спецпоселения) (see ''Involuntary settlements in the Soviet Union''). The deportations began after the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia and northern Bukovina, which occurred in June 1940. A commemorative stone was unveiled on 28 June 2010, as a monument to the victims of the Soviet occupation and the totalitarian communist regime, Soviet Occupation Day in Moldova. It is located on Great National Assembly Square, formerly known as Victory Square and once home to the central monument to Vladimir Lenin of Soviet Moldavia.
