Memorial Rock
Memorial Rock is a boulder on State Highway 145 (SH 145) near Dolores in the US state of Colorado. Rockfall Rockfall, caused by ice jacking during freeze-thaw cycles in the Rocky Mountains, is cited as a "chronic hazard" at over 750 locations by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). On May 24, 2019, a rockfall from a mountain ledge occurred at milepost 22 of SH 145 near Dolores, completely covering and closing the highway. The largest rock in the rockfall left an trench behind it. Another, smaller boulder that weighed over and was long came down in the same rockfall and was blasted to fragments on May 26 by the state in order to reopen one lane of SH 145. State Highway 145 (SH 145) is a state highway in western Colorado. It runs for between U.S. Route 160 (US 160) in Cortez and SH 141 near Naturita. Route description The route begins in the south at its intersection with US 160 in the eastern portion of the city of Cortez. The route winds northward through the towns of Dolores, Rico, Sawpit, Placerville, Norwood, and Redvale before terminating at the junction with SH 141 about east of Naturita. The Town of Dolores is a Statutory Town located in Montezuma County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 885 at the 2020 United States Census.
