Victorian Legislative Assembly
The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly is the Speaker. There are presently 88 members of the Legislative Assembly elected from single-member divisions. History Victoria was proclaimed a Colony on 1 July 1851 separating from the Colony of New South Wales by an act of the British Parliament. Ann Barker
Ann Patricia Barker (born 19 January 1952) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014, representing the electorate of Oakleigh. She previously represented the electorate of Bentleigh from 1988 to 1992. Barker was born in Tasmania. She worked as an electorate officer to former federal MP Joan Child before being elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Bentleigh at the 1988 state election, succeeding retiring ALP member Gordon Hockley. She was seen as a potential ministerial candidate towards the end of her first term, but was twice overlooked by then-Premier Joan Kirner. Bendigo West is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is a electorate centred on the city of Bendigo west of the Yungera railway line, and including surrounding rural towns to the west and south-west. It encompasses the localities of Bendigo City, California Gully, Castlemaine, Harcourt, Long Gully, Maldon, Marong, Newstead and West Bendigo. Bob Cameron (Victorian Politician)
Robert Graham Cameron (born 19 March 1963) is a former Australian state politician. He represented the electorate of Bendigo West in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. He served as the Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrections (2006-2010 in the third Bracks Ministry and the Brumby Government). Educated in Bendigo at government schools, Cameron also attended the University of Melbourne where he obtained a law degree. Electoral District Of Prahran
Prahran is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It was created by the Electoral Act Amendment Act 1888, taking effect at the 1889 elections. The electorate is the state’s smallest by area, covering a little under 11 km² in the inner south-east of Melbourne. It includes the suburbs of South Yarra, Prahran and Windsor, as well as parts of Balaclava, St Kilda, St Kilda East and Toorak (west of Orrong Rd). Prahran has tended to be a marginal seat throughout its existence, repeatedly changing between the Labor Party and its successive conservative rivals. Leonie Burke
Leonie Therese Burke, née Hemingway (born 27 January 1949) is a former Australian politician. She was the Liberal member for Prahran in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2002. Burke was born in Melbourne to Douglas and Marie Hemingway, and was educated at Genazzano Convent (1954–66) and Invergowrie College (1967). Between 1971 and 1986 she held nursing and secretarial positions and also the family directorship. She became a Prahran City Councillor in 1986 and served as Mayor from 1990 to 1992. After leaving the council in 1993, she became Chair of the Local Government Board until her entry into state politics in 1996. John Brumby
John Mansfield Brumby (born 21 April 1953) is the current Chancellor of La Trobe University and former Victorian Labor Party politician who was Premier of Victoria from 2007 to 2010. He became leader of the Victorian Labor Party and premier after the resignation of Steve Bracks. He also served as the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs. He contested his first election as premier at the November 2010 Victorian state election. His government was defeated by the Liberal/National Coalition led by Ted Baillieu. Williamstown is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is a 33 km2 urban electorate in the inner south-western suburbs of Melbourne, encompassing the suburbs of Brooklyn, Newport, Spotswood, Williamstown and Yarraville. Stephen Phillip Bracks (born 15 October 1954) is a former Australian politician and was the 44th Premier of Victoria. He first won the electoral district of Williamstown in 1994 for the Labor Party and was party leader and premier from 1999 to 2007. Bracks led Labor in Victoria to minority government at the 1999 election, defeating the incumbent Jeff Kennett Liberal and National coalition government. Liz Beattie
Elizabeth Jean Beattie is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014. She represented the electorate of Yuroke from 2002; she previously represented the abolished electorate of Tullamarine. She was the Parliamentary Secretary assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs and Veteran Affairs in the Brumby Labor Government. Beattie was born in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond.
