Victorian Legislative Assembly
The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly is the Speaker. There are presently 88 members of the Legislative Assembly elected from single-member divisions. History Victoria was proclaimed a Colony on 1 July 1851 separating from the Colony of New South Wales by an act of the British Parliament. The Legislative Assembly was created on 13 March 1856 with the passing of the ''Victorian Electoral Bill'', five years after the creation of the original unicameral Legislative Council. The Assembly first met on 21 November 1856, and consisted of sixty members representing thirty-seven multi and single-member electorates. Alan John Brown (born 25 January 1946) is a former Australian politician who served as a Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division), Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, and Leader of the Opposition (Victoria), Leader of the Opposition from 1989 to 1991. Electoral District Of Box Hill
The electoral district of Box Hill is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, covering an area of in eastern Melbourne. It contains the suburbs of Box Hill, Box Hill North, Box Hill South, Mont Albert, Mont Albert North, most of Blackburn, Blackburn North, and Blackburn South, and parts of Balwyn North, Burwood, Burwood East, and Surrey Hills. It lies within the Eastern Metropolitan Region in the upper house, the Legislative Council. Electoral boundary changes The electoral district of Doncaster was split off from Box Hill and created in 1976 due to population growth. A redistribution of electorate boundaries in 1991 abolished the Balwyn electorate and incorporated most of it into Box Hill. A large part of the Box Hill electorate (with 17,290 electors) was also transferred to Mitcham. Robert Clark (Australian Politician)
Robert William Clark (born 11 March 1957) is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1988 to 2018, representing the electorates of Balwyn (1988–1992) and Box Hill (1992–2018). He served as Attorney-General and Minister for Finance in the Baillieu Ministry and Napthine Ministry from 2010 to 2014, and also served as Minister for Industrial Relations under Napthine from 2013 to 2014. Carlo Domenico Carli (born 6 April 1960) is an Australian politician, and president of association football (soccer) Brunswick Zebras Football Club. He was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1994 to 2010, representing the electorate of Brunswick. Early life Carlo was born in Melbourne in 1960. His parents came to Australia from Italy after WWII. They come from Vicenza, in the old Venetian republic and lived first in Carlton and later in Coburg. Christine Mary Campbell (born 30 November 1953) is an Australian politician. Education Born in Melbourne, Campbell graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education from La Trobe University. She later was Head of the National Women's Bureau in the Shop Distributive Association from 1974–80. She became an emergency teacher and adult migrant teacher in 1981, and joined the Labor Party in 1983. Bendigo West is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is a electorate centred on the city of Bendigo west of the Yungera railway line, and including surrounding rural towns to the west and south-west. It encompasses the localities of Bendigo City, California Gully, Castlemaine, Harcourt, Long Gully, Maldon, Marong, Newstead and West Bendigo. It also includes parts of the Bendigo suburbs of Eaglehawk, Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat. It lies within the Northern Victoria Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. Robert Graham Cameron (born 19 March 1963) is a former Australian state politician. He represented the electorate of Bendigo West in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Electoral District Of Prahran
Prahran is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It was created by the Electoral Act Amendment Act 1888, taking effect at the 1889 elections. The electorate is the state’s smallest by area, covering a little under 11 km² in the inner south-east of Melbourne. It includes the suburbs of South Yarra, Prahran and Windsor, as well as parts of Balaclava, St Kilda, St Kilda East and Toorak (west of Orrong Rd). Prahran has tended to be a marginal seat throughout its existence, repeatedly changing between the Labor Party and its successive conservative rivals. It has not, however, been a bellwether seat, as the changes of party control have often not coincided with changes of government. Leonie Burke
Leonie Therese Burke, née Hemingway (born 27 January 1949) is a former Australian politician. She was the Liberal member for Prahran in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2002. Burke was born in Melbourne to Douglas and Marie Hemingway, and was educated at Genazzano Convent (1954–66) and Invergowrie College (1967). Between 1971 and 1986 she held nursing and secretarial positions and also the family directorship. She became a Prahran City Councillor in 1986 and served as Mayor from 1990 to 1992. After leaving the council in 1993, she became Chair of the Local Government Board until her entry into state politics in 1996.
