Electoral District Of Geelong
The electoral district of Geelong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It centres on inner metropolitan Geelong and following the June 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries includes the suburbs of Belmont, Breakwater, East Geelong, Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Geelong, Herne Hill, Manifold Heights, Newcomb, Newtown, St Albans Park, Thomson, Whittington and part of Fyansford. The seat first existed from 1856 to 1859 as a four-member seat. It was split into Geelong East and Geelong West in 1859, but re-created in 1876 as a three-member seat. It was cut back to a two-member seat in 1889, and became a single-member seat in 1904. It was abolished in 1976, but re-created in 1985. In its current incarnation, it has historically been a marginal seat with demographics similar to the state at large. As such, it was held by the governing party of the day from 1985 to 2010. Brian Dixon (Australian Rules Footballer)
Brian James Dixon (born 20 May 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer and Victorian politician. Dixon played 252 VFL games for Melbourne between 1954 and 1968, playing mostly on the wing. He played in five premierships, winning Melbourne's best and fairest in 1960, while in 1961 he was selected in the All-Australian team and he also won the Tassie Medal for his performances at the 1961 Brisbane Carnival. In 2000 he was named in Melbourne's Team of the Century. Despite still playing football for Melbourne, he entered parliament in 1964, as the member for the now abolished seat of St Kilda, representing the Liberal Party. Being from the moderate wing of the party he clashed with then Premier Henry Bolte, especially over the hanging of Ronald Ryan which Dixon strongly opposed. Esmond Curnow
Esmond Julian Curnow (born 27 October 1946) is an Australian politician. He was born in Bendigo to factory manager Thomas William Curnow and Esma Jean Cook. He attended Bendigo High School and became the manager of a bedding store. He joined the Labor Party in 1962 and was a member of the Castlemaine and Moonee Ponds branches. In 1970 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Kara Kara, serving until his seat was abolished in 1976. After leaving politics he became a publican, and also the secretary of the Bendigo Trades Hall Council from 1981 to 1983. The electoral district of Sandringham is one of the electoral districts of Victoria, Australia, for the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It consists of the Melbourne bayside suburbs of Beaumaris, Black Rock and Sandringham, and parts of Cheltenham, Hampton, Highett, and Mentone. Since the seat was created in 1955, it has been held by the Liberal Party, except for the period 1982-5 when it was held by the Labor Party. Maxwell Leslie Crellin (16 July 1933 – 5 May 2020) was an Australian politician. He was born in Preston to butcher Leslie Francis Crellin and dressmaker Myrtle Louisa Agnew. He attended school at Belgrave, Chatham and Camberwell before studying at Melbourne University. He was a clerk and underwent national service, eventually becoming an assistant executive in the Australian Road Federation in 1964. On 10 November 1964 he married Joan Margaret Heasley, with whom he had two sons. In 1966 he became secretary of the Victorian branches of the Bus Proprietors' Association and the Taxi Association. Bruce Chamberlain
Bruce Anthony Chamberlain AM (9 August 1939 – 1 October 2005) was an Australian politician. He was born at Brighton in Melbourne to Peter Henry Chamberlain, a railways paymaster, and Eileen, ''née'' Haddad. After attending De La Salle College in Malvern, he studied at the University of Melbourne, receiving a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law. On 6 February 1965 he married Paula Swan, with whom he had four children. In 1965 he became a partner with the solicitors' firm Melville, Orton & Lewis, while also acquiring farming property near Hamilton. He served on Hamilton City Council from 1969 to 1973. In 1973 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for Dundas. His seat was abolished in 1976 and he won election to the Victorian Legislative Council for Western Province. Cecil William John (Cec) Burgin (19 May 1923 – 1 November 2003) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1985, representing the electorate of Polwarth. Burgin was born in Horsham, and attended Pimpinio State School and the Ballarat School of Mines, where he studied agricultural engineering. He worked on his family's property at Pimpinio after leaving school, but joined the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. He trained in Canada and England, attaining the rank of flying officer, and served in India and South East Asia. He became a grazier at Port Campbell after the war. He was a Shire of Heytesbury councillor from 1953 to 1963, including a term as shire president in 1960.
