Electoral District Of Sandringham
The electoral district of Sandringham is one of the electoral districts of Victoria, Australia, for the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It consists of the Melbourne bayside suburbs of Beaumaris, Black Rock and Sandringham, and parts of Cheltenham, Hampton, Highett, and Mentone. Since the seat was created in 1955, it has been held by the Liberal Party, except for the period 1982-5 when it was held by the Labor Party. The seat is currently held by Brad Rowswell of the Liberal Party with a margin of 5.1%. Max Crellin
Maxwell Leslie Crellin (16 July 1933 – 5 May 2020) was an Australian politician. He was born in Preston to butcher Leslie Francis Crellin and dressmaker Myrtle Louisa Agnew. He attended school at Belgrave, Chatham and Camberwell before studying at Melbourne University. He was a clerk and underwent national service, eventually becoming an assistant executive in the Australian Road Federation in 1964. On 10 November 1964 he married Joan Margaret Heasley, with whom he had two sons. In 1966 he became secretary of the Victorian branches of the Bus Proprietors' Association and the Taxi Association. The electoral district of Melbourne is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It currently includes the localities of Docklands, Carlton, Melbourne, East Melbourne, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Parkville, Newmarket, Kensington and Flemington, and includes Melbourne University. The district has been in existence since 1856 (it was abolished in 1859 and reestablished in 1889). The electorate was won in 2014 for the first time by Greens candidate Ellen Sandell. History Melbourne was one of the inaugural districts of the first Assembly in 1856. Arthur Clarey
Reynold Arthur Clarey (15 March 1897 – 9 May 1972) was an Australian politician. Born in South Yarra to estate agent Francis William Clarey and Catherine Lawson (his half-brother Percy would also go on to be a prominent politician and unionist), Arthur attended Flemington State School, Melbourne High School and Melbourne University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. He was employed as a clerk with the Victorian Public Service from 1913 to 1920 and with BHP from 1920 to 1947. On 23 September 1940 he married Irene Mary Leech, who died in 1957; he remarried on 1 July 1958 Doris Jane McGinnis, ''née'' Blythe. Clarey joined the Labor Party in 1932, and was later president of the Clerks' Union. In 1955 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Melbourne. He was the auditor of the state branch from 1955 to 1970 and the parliamentary treasury spokesman from 1967 to 1970. Electoral District Of Ivanhoe (Victoria)
The electoral district of Ivanhoe is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is located in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and includes the suburbs of Heidelberg, Ivanhoe, Rosanna and Macleod. Formed in 1945 the seat had usually been fairly safe for the Liberal Party having only been won by Labor at its 1952 and 1982 landslides before the 1990s. However a redistribution prior to the 1992 election made the seat notionally Labor. Liberal candidate Vin Heffernan was able to win at that election, only to be one of just three sitting Liberals defeated at the 1996 election. Labor's Craig Langdon held the seat comfortably until he resigned from the parliament on 25 August 2010, citing family and personal reasons, as well as "disloyalty and betrayal" from several of his colleagues. Sir Vernon Howard Colville Christie (17 December 1909 – 4 November 1994) was an Australian politician. He was born in Manly to accountant Colville Christie and Ilma Marion Allen. He was the grand-nephew of New South Wales politician Sir Arthur Renwick. Cecil William John (Cec) Burgin (19 May 1923 – 1 November 2003) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1985, representing the electorate of Polwarth. Burgin was born in Horsham, and attended Pimpinio State School and the Ballarat School of Mines, where he studied agricultural engineering. He worked on his family's property at Pimpinio after leaving school, but joined the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. He trained in Canada and England, attaining the rank of flying officer, and served in India and South East Asia. He became a grazier at Port Campbell after the war. He was a Shire of Heytesbury councillor from 1953 to 1963, including a term as shire president in 1960. The Electoral district of Swan Hill was a rural Lower House electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It was located within the Northern Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. The area had previously been part of the electoral districts of Wimmera (1851-89), Crowlands (1858-77), and Donald & Swan Hill (1889-1904). At its beginning in 1904, the district spanned the Victorian Mallee region, covering not only Swan Hill and its surrounds, but also the Mildura area. This changed in 1927, with the creation of the electoral district of Mildura. It was held by a conservative party for its entire existence. The National Party of Australia – Victoria is a political party in Victoria, which forms the state branch of the federal Nationals. Historically, it represented graziers, farmers and rural voters. However, the modern National Party no longer represents these traditional interests; shifting its focus to support the mining industry and as a result, ignoring the challenges faced by rural communities and farmers struggling with the effects of climate change and mining practices such as fracking. The Victorian Farmer's Union formed in 1914 was the precursor to the Victorian Country Party, later the Nationals.
