This is a list of members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1929 to 1932, as elected at the 1929 state election. Several realignments took place during the period: * The Country Progressive Party re-merged with the Country Party in 1930. Harold Glowrey remained as an Independent. * The Nationalist Party was renamed the United Australia Party (UAP) on 15 September 1931, to match the situation at federal level. * During the 1932 election campaign, several Labor members including the Premier, Edmond Hogan, were expelled from the Victorian Labor Party for supporting the Premiers' Plan. : In August 1930, the Nationalist member for Hawthorn, former Premier William Murray McPherson, resigned. Stanley Argyle
Sir Stanley Seymour Argyle KBE, MRCS, LRCP (4 December 1867 – 23 November 1940), was an Australian doctor, radiologist, businessman, and politician. Argyle was the former Leader of the Opposition, Treasurer and Premier of Victoria, achieving the latter in May 1932, following the 1932 Victorian state election. Early life Argyle was born in Kyneton, Colony of Victoria in 1867 to Edward Argyle, a grazier from England, and Mary Cook. He was educated at the Kyneton School, Hawthorn Grammar School, and Brighton Grammar School before attending Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated in medicine. He went on to study bacteriology at King's College London. Political career After further study in the United Kingdom, he went into general practice in Kew, and was later a pioneer of radiology in Australia. Murray Bourchier
Brigadier Sir Murray William James Bourchier, CMG, DSO, VD (4 April 1881 – 16 December 1937) was an Australian soldier and politician. He was Deputy Premier of Victoria from April 1935 until June 1936. Early life Murray was the eldest son of Edward and Francis Bourchier, owners of the Woodland Park property near Strathmerton, Victoria. He was educated privately in Melbourne and afterwards worked at Woodland Park. Military career World War I Bourchier commanded a CMF light horse troop at Numurkah, Victoria from 1909 to 1914. At the outbreak of World War I he was commissioned into the 4th Light Horse Regiment and left with the first contingent of the First Australian Imperial Force. He served with the regiment in the Gallipoli, Egyptian, Sinai, Palestine and Syrian campaigns. Ernie Bond (politician)
Ernest Edward "Ernie" Bond (29 June 1897 – 25 July 1984) was an Australian politician. He was born in Heywood to rural worker Robert Bond and Sarah Jane Mullens. He attended Geelong High School and became a schoolteacher at Lavers Hill and Heywood, and then head teacher at Greenwald and Condah. On 20 July 1923 he married Ethel Thomas, with whom he had three children. A member of the Labor Party's Heywood branch from the age of seventeen, he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Glenelg in 1924; he transferred to Port Fairy and Glenelg in 1927. In 1932 he was expelled from the Labor Party over his support for the Premiers' Plan; he was re-elected as an independent and was readmitted to the Labor Party in 1937. Maurice Blackburn
Maurice McCrae Blackburn (19 November 1880 – 31 March 1944) was an Australian politician and socialist lawyer, noted for his protection of the interests of workers and the establishment of the legal firm known as Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. Biography Blackburn was born in Inglewood, Victoria, to Maurice Blackburn, a bank manager, and his wife Thomasann Cole (née McCrae), daughter of Captain Alexander McCrae. Following the death of his father in 1887, Blackburn and his mother moved to Melbourne where he was educated at Melbourne Grammar School, matriculating in 1896. He attended the University of Melbourne, graduating in arts and law in 1909, and began to practise as a lawyer a year later. In the same year, he also became a member of the Victorian Socialist Party and was soon editing its newspaper, ''The Socialist''. Later, in about 1908, he joined the Australian Labor Party. Matthew Bennett (politician)
Matthew Bennett (20 January 1862 – 16 January 1951) was an Australian politician. He was born at Carngham to farmer Joseph Bennett and Elizabeth Ann Temby. He became a farmer at Benjeroop, and on 31 October 1889 married Mary Simpson, with whom he had four daughters. Around 1906 he moved to Yannathan. An active member of the Country Party from its foundation, he served on Kooweerup Shire Council from 1925 to 1951 and was president from 1931 to 1932 and from 1941 to 1942. In 1929 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in a by-election for Gippsland West. He served until his retirement in 1950. The electoral district of Benambra is one of the electoral districts of Victoria, Australia, for the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in north-eastern Victoria. The largest settlement is the city of Wodonga. Henry Beardmore
Henry Beardmore (7 February 1863 – 29 August 1932) was an Australian politician. He was born in Melton to butcher Edwin James Beardmore and Flora McDonald. He grew up in Benalla and became a butcher at Glenrowan before becoming a farmer near Wodonga. On 15 July 1885 he married Agnes Annie Lee, with whom he had four children; she died in 1892, and on 23 August 1893 he married Jessie Muirhead, with whom he had a further ten children. He served on Wodonga Shire Council from 1898 to 1922, with four terms as president (1900–01, 1908–10, 1911–12, 1914–17).
