Robert Burrowes (Australian Politician)
Robert Burrowes (1825 – 16 September 1893) was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Burrowes was born in Perth, Upper Canada, the son of James Burrowes and his wife Henrietta, ''née'' Nixon. After experience in the lumber trade he left Canada in 1852, and arrived in Melbourne in April 1853. He almost immediately afterwards left for the Bendigo (Sandhurst) diggings, where he took an active part in creating Sandhurst Municipality, and was chairman of the local council when the Bendigo railway line The Deniliquin railway line (also known as the Echuca railway line) is a broad-gauge railway line serving northwestern Victoria, Australia. Geelong East was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria from 1859 to 1985. It was located south of the city of Geelong, defined in the Victorian Electoral Act, 1858 as: Geelong East (along with Electoral district of Geelong West) was created when the four-member Electoral district of Geelong was abolished in 1859. James Joseph Casey
James Joseph Casey (25 December 1831 – 5 April 1913) was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly almost continuously from 1861 to 1880 who also served as a judge of the County Court of Victoria and Victorian Land Tax Commissioner. Casey was born in Tromroe, County Clare, Ireland, the son of James Casey. He was educated at Galway College, and after five years spent in America he arrived in Victoria in 1855, where he joined Angus Mackay in the purchase of the ''Bendigo Advertiser'', and afterwards started the ''McIvor Times'' and ''Riverine Herald''. In August 1861 Casey was elected to the Assembly for Sandhurst, but was unseated on petition in March 1862. After being unsuccessful for Grenville in 1862, in August 1863 he was returned for Mandurang in the Liberal interest, and continued to sit for that constituency until February 1880. Robert Byrne (Australian Politician)
Robert Byrne (1821 – 24 March 1909) was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia) and Treasurer of Victoria September 1869 to 21 January 1870. Byrne was born in Waterford, Ireland, the son of Robert Byrne. He left Ireland for New York City in 1848, and settled there, carrying on the business of general auctioneer in that city as well as in Boston. Towards the end of 1852 he left America for Victoria, arriving in Melbourne. In February 1853, he commenced auctioneering at Sandridge, now called Port Melbourne, and represented the district in the Melbourne Corporation prior to its being constituted a separate municipality. At the general election of 1864 Byrne contested Sandridge for a seat in the Victorian Legislative Assembly in the Liberal interest against the Hon. David Moore, but was defeated by three votes, and was unsuccessful on petition. Shortly afterwards he was returned for Crowlands by a very large majority.
