This is a list of members of the 30th Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1944 to 1947, as elected at the 1944 state election held on 15 April 1944. : On 24 December 1945, the Country member for East Toowoomba, Herbert Yeates, died. Labor candidate Les Wood won the resulting by-election on 2 March 1946. : On 12 March 1946, the Labor member for Bremer and Premier of Queensland, Frank Cooper, retired. Labor candidate Jim Donald won the resulting by-election on 10 September 1946. : On 30 December 1946, the Country member for Wide Bay, Harry Clayton, died. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). The Assembly first sat in May 1860 and produced Australia's first Hansard in April 1864. Electoral District Of The Tableland
The Tableland was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. History The Tableland was created in the 1931 redistribution, taking effect at the 1932 state election. It was based in the Atherton Tableland, west of Cairns. The Tableland was abolished at the 1950 state election, the eastern portion forming the newly recreated district of Mulgrave and the remainder forming part of the enlarged new Electoral district of Tablelands. Electoral District Of Kurilpa
Kurilpa was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland from 1912 to 1986. It was named for the Kurilpa Peninsula on the Brisbane River. Until 1960, it was based in the inner southern Brisbane suburbs of West End and the western parts of South Brisbane, but after that, also included Dutton Park, Fairfield, Highgate Hill and parts of Yeronga and Annerley. The seat was created at the 1910 distribution out of part of the two-member South Brisbane seat, and was abolished at the distribution ahead of the 1986 election. The seat's last member, Anne Warner, transferred to South Brisbane, which absorbed most of Kurilpa's territory. Bremer was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. History Bremer was established as a single-member electorate by the ''Electoral Districts Act of 1872''. However, in 1878, it was abolished and absorbed into the Electoral district of Ipswich, changing Ipswich from a single-member to two-member constituency. Wide Bay was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. History Wide Bay was one of the 16 original electorates of 1859; it centred on Maryborough but also included the coastal strip from the Mooloolah River, north to Bustard Head near Gladstone. However, in 1864, the Electoral district of Maryborough was established and the Wide Bay electorate contracted towards the south of Maryborough but still include the rural areas around Maryborough. Initially Wide Bay was a single member constituency, but from 1878 to 1888 it became a two-member constituency, after which it reverted to a single member. Electoral District Of Fitzroy (Queensland)
Fitzroy was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district was based in central Queensland, west of Rockhampton. It included the towns of Baralaba, Blackwater, Duaringa, Dysart, Mount Morgan and Wowan as well as some of Rockhampton's outer suburbs. The electorate was first contested in 1992. An earlier district based in the same region was also called Fitzroy. It was first contested in 1888 and abolished in 1960. In 2008, Fitzroy was abolished—with effect at the 2009 state election—as a result of a redistribution undertaken by the Electoral Commission of Queensland. Its former territory and voters were divided between the districts of Callide, Gregory, Mirani and Rockhampton.
